Blue Glaucus

Blue Glaucus is a blue sea slug. It is up to 3 centimeters in length and usually lives for a year. This
animal is light blue and it has dark blue and silver stripes going down it’s back and a white belly. Blue
Glaucus has 3 feather like arms, which store dangerous venom which is a poisonous substance. Even
though Blue Glaucus is a snail it doesn’t have a shell.

This creature moves very slowly using it’s cerates that are located in the feather arms. Slug
attacks it’s prey using the venom. It’s preys are usually animals called Men o war (they look like jelly
fishes), because Blue Glaucuses are immune to the venom that is produced by Men o var. These sea
slugs need to eat a lot compared to their size.

Blue Glaucuses are located in the tropical waters which are 23.5 degrees Celsius , around South
Africa, Europe and Australia. They float upside down on the surface by swallowing and storing air
bubbles.

Although Blue Glaucuses look very pretty, it’s not recommended to pick them up, because they
can poison you with their venom and cause burns that can be worse than the ones caused by a jelly fish.
Also it is not recommended keeping them as pets, because they need a huge amount of exotic food that
humans cannot provide them with.

Sadly, climate change can cause this creature to go extinct. Climate change causes ocean
acidification which results in Men o war not being able to eat as much food and that makes them less
nutritious, this way Blue Glaucuses slowly are losing their food income.
