Food Supply Chain Cluster

Farmers, seed producers, merchants, transporters, wholesalers, retailers, financial institutions,

and insurance firms all contribute to the formation of food chain clusters. Sharing information
is critical for achieving efficiencies. Information and money transfers between stakeholders
are made possible through the use of the Internet and mobile communications. Furthermore,
recent advancements in RFID technology will have a significant impact on food chain
management, notably in terms of source identification and tracking, as well as supply chain
visibility. In affluent countries, merchants (Walmart, Tesco, etc.) have supplanted food
manufacturers as the Channel Masters of the food supply chain. There is a vacuum in India,
where there are no superstores, no economies of scale, and too many intermediates, implying
that there is no genuine channel master regulating supply demand, coordinating the supply
chain, and managing logistical activities. This is a fantastic opportunity for clever
entrepreneurs to enter a rapidly growing industry with significant retail FDI potential.
However, it is important to keep in mind that infrastructure capital expenditures are
significant, and the benefits are long-term. In addition, owning a cold chain entails a number
of hazards. Country risk, monsoon risk, crop or raw material supply failures due to pests or
illnesses are just a few examples.
