ABSTRACT

Mineral exploration is one of the activities to obtain information on mineral deposits, but
the exploration process generally takes a long time and costs a lot, especially if it is carried out
over a large area. An understanding of the formation of laterite nickel and the factors of its
formation is an important thing that must be understood by explorers to assist in exploration
activities. Based on geological conditions, the stratigraphic order of Southeast Sulawesi consists of
continental fragments, ophiolite complexes and Sulawesi molasses. One area that has the potential
for the distribution of laterite nickel ore is at PT. Total Prima Indonesia Kec. Bungku Coastal
District. Morowali Prov. Central Sulawesi. This laterite nickel deposit mapping is based on drill
hole data obtained by the company.

The purpose of this study was to determine the shape and direction of distribution and
estimation of resources in the research area. To realize the research objectives using ArcGIS 10.3
software and Surpac 6.3 software with the IDW (Inverse Distance Weighting) method. Resource
mapping as an initial description to determine laterite nickel ore deposits.

After drawing using Surpac 6.3 software, the results of the shape and distribution of
mineral deposits at the study site with the volume of each layer are 1,174,854 m3 Limonite layer,
64,276 m3 Saprolite layer and 299,093 m3 Bedrock layer, with a total volume of 299,093 m3
1,534,223 m3. While the distribution of nickel content varies greatly. If referring to the company's
COG, namely 1.8%, then the levels of 1.8 - 1.9% Ni are spread in the East, Southeast, Southwest
and Northwest and are relatively spread towards the South, with a percentage distribution of
3.73%.
