ED103 GEOGRAPHY 3 (URBAN)

WEEK 7-8 ACTIVITY
Name: JUN MARK B. YABO Year Level: BSED-III

1. Explain the diversity and spatial differentiation in the city.

Cities are becoming more diverse. This increasing diversity, associated with migration, different
lifestyles within and between groups, and spatial segregation in terms of ethnicity and socio-
economic variables, leads to diverse and usually unequal opportunities for different groups of
urban residents.

2. Analyze the political, economic, cultural and social factors underlying

the city movements of people.

Many factors that influence migration are difficult to predict. While social, political and
economic developments are exceptionally difficult to predict precisely, judgements can be
made based upon current situations. Ecological disruption is easier to pre-empt as there is a
large body of scientific evidence to suggest that this factor will be a cause for concern in the
near future. Environmental modelling, as well as worsening food and water security in many
countries, shows that ecological issues are already beginning to present challenges globally.
Ecological factors have the potential to become an increasingly significant force influencing
migration over the 21st century. Increasing levels of intolerance, economic disparities
between countries as well as the threat of climate change and its associated impacts are all
key factors that drive immigration and population movements. This part of the paper has
looked at the major factors that influence population movements and immigration.
Performance task (Term Paper)
Locate information on the ways in which immigrants have spatially
located and the reason behind the transfer in the city. Specifically look into
the correlation of economic factors and migration from provinces into the
cities.
Migration is the movement of people from one location to another and widely associated
with change of permanent place of residence. Reasons of Migration are inter-regional and
intraregional disparities at macro level and fundamentally lack of employment opportunities
resulting low standard of living conditions among different socio-economic groups at micro
level. There are three components of population change. They are mortality, fertility and
migration. There are two types of migration: internal migration and international migration.
Internal migration is the movement of people from one place to other place in a given
country. International migration is the movement of people from one country to another in
order to take up employment of establish residence or to increase in living standard.
