seat - the other two
candidates were Nunzio
Consalvo and Avi Mazouz.
Bartolomeo and Consalvo
were running mates in this
year's council election.

At the Nov. 22 meeting, the

three Republicans on council
voted to appoint Bartolomeo
to the council, while the two
Democrats on council
abstained. Bartolomeo took
the oath of office at the
meeting and was sworn in by
Council President Robert

Asatrian, who resigned earlier this year.
"I'd like to thank the county
committee," said Bartolomeo.
He also added that he does not support a merger of the police and fire departments,
noting both do a "wonderful job."

The three Republicans on council also voted to have Bartolomeo take over all of the
committees Asatrian was on, while the two Democrats again abstained.

Asatrian, officially resigned on Nov. 10 then rescinded the following morning. By

the afternoon, however, he again decided to resign, partly because of family
obligations and commitments. In an interview on NY1 on Nov. 15, Asatrian said he
was trying to get back his council seat to finish serving his term - even if that meant
taking legal action. Asatrian was elected to council in 2009 and served as the
commissioner of the police department. He was not up for re-election this year; his
term was to expire on 2012.

"I'm looking forward to your help," Mayor Joseph C. Parisi Jr. told Bartolomeo. "It's

Just another puppet. People of EC look forward to another year of stupidity from
your elected officials.

Rejected by the voters overwhelming, but the Republican Council members ignored
the people they serve. It's also refreshing to see young Carlo finally took a stand on
an issue. No one knew who he was or what he issues he stood for when he ran and
lost. Now he gets a second try.
