CONSTITUTION OF MUUNI ARTS THEATRE

ARTICLE I

NOMINATION
The theatre group shall be known as “MUUNI ARTS THEATRE” and hereafter
referred as “MAT”

ARTICLE II

MISSION STATEMENT

To bring all talented people together and putting Malawians arts on the map of
talents.

ARTICLE III

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

 To change the negative mindset that many Malawians have towards local
productions that they cannot emerge in the mainstream of international
interest
 To promote civic education in health,human rights and all matters affecting
Malawians at large through performing arts on stage,film and radio.
 To create an environment where artists can work together positively for a
common purpose.
 Uplifting the standard of film production and theatre in Malawi.
  To train the youth on how to use their talents meaningfully
 To create an environment where artists take arts as a career and be able to
turn talent to cash.

ARTICLE IV

MEMBERSHIP
The group shall have a membership of 30 people who meet the following specification

 Fluency in both written and spoken English and Chichewa.

 10 years and above.
 Members shall be recruited through auditions.
 No member shall have duo membership with any group that has similar
aims,objectives and mode of operating as Muuni arts theatre.

ARTICLE V

VISION

To establish a center for positive artistic professionalism that will bring Malawian
arts into the mainstream of the international standards.

ARTICLE VIII

THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

 Chair
 Vice chair

The Executive committee shall be headed by the artistic Director who shall
play the advisory role and other duties as outlined in the constitution.

ARTICLE IX

TERMS OF OFFICE
 Members of the Executive committee shall hold positions
for a period of twelve months.
 Elections shall be conducted within the month of December.
 Elections shall be conducted only when there is over half of
the members. This means that elections shall not conducted
when the number of members during election day is below
half.
 In the event that the time for the executive has elapsed and
January (which is the elections month) has come to an end,
the artistic Director shall appoint a team of five people to act
as executive committee until the next elections.
 The Executive committee shall appoint a Stage Manager and
His/Her Vice; and Make-Up Manager and His/Her Vice.
These four shall report to the Executive committee.
 The Stage Manager/Vice and Make-Up/Vice shall hold
positions until the end of the tenure of the executive
committee.
 The Executive committee shall have power to dismiss the
make-up/stage Management team at any time for reasons
such as incompetence or any other reasons that the
Executive committee sees as necessary to dismiss the team.

ARTICLE X
POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE EXECTIVE

 Initiate, organize and coordinate activities for the

achievement of MUUNI ARTS THEATRE
 Cooperate with other parties within and outside having
similar objective with those of MUUNI ARTS THEATRE
 Solicit and administer funds or material sources from within
or outside Malawi.
 Present financial and annual reports during the annual
general meetings.
 Conduct auditions and Endorse new members.
 Create or terminate contracts.

ARTICLE XI
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

 Shall be the group’s spokesperson

 Shall be the group’s signatory
 Shall be responsible for writing plays, directing and analyze plays
written by members or nonmembers
 Shall pay the advisory role to the executive committee and general
membership.
 The Director shall delegate his or her responsibilities to the chair
person.

CHAIR PERSON

 Shall be responsible for all administrative of MUUNI ARTS THEATRE

 Shall be the group’s signatory.
 Shall be the group’s spokesperson when the Director is in absent.

VICE CHAIR PERSON

 Shall carry out the duties of Chairperson is in absent FINANCIAL

FINANCIAL CONTROL
 Shall be the group’s signatory
 Shall keep financial records of the group
 Shall be responsible for presenting financial reports
 Giving allowances or payments to members
 SECRETARY

 Shall keep records and take minutes of the group during meetings.
 Shall present agendas during meetings.
 Shall be responsible for all internal communications for the group.
VICE SECRETARY
 Shall be responsible for all duties of the secretary when the secretary
is in absent.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS
 Shall support the Executive by making sure that the Executive
Committee remain focused in all its dealings and activities
 Shall perform the duties as delegated by the Executive committee.

MAKE-UP MANAGERS
 Shall design costumes for every actor, singer, dancer and poet
before going on stage to perform.
 Shall be responsible for all make-ups.

STAGE MANAGERS
 Shall design stage before performance
 Shall make sure that (resources permitting) all props are available
and properly managed.
 RULES AND REGULATIONS
Any member of MUUNI ARTS THEATRE Shall
 Obey the appointed committee
 Not fall in with a fellow member
 Not take alcohol or smoke chamba or any blend during rehearsal or
performance. Members ought to be exemplary.
 Not instigate or be involved in any kind of violence; verbal or not.
 Members who shall be absent for consecutive three rehearsals
without any proper reason shall be lose membership; (except for
reported sickness or tangible reasons)
 Any member who shall exclude himself or herself shall not perform
at any event being prepared for.

FINANCE AND ACCOUNTS

The Executive committee shall

 Open and operate a bank account into which all financial resources
shall be credited
 MUUNI ARTS THEATRE bank account shall be signed for by;
a) person Director
b) Treasure
c) Chair

AMENDMENTS
This Constitution may be amended at the annual General meeting of
the group.
