INTRODUCTION
Soccer is a sport in which combinations
of various physical fitness, including
sprinting, changing direction, dribbling,
walking, and running, occur repeatedly
over a 90-min period. To perform these
actions at a high level, it is important to
create optimal movement patterns
based on the core, balance, range of
motion, and coordination. However,
poor movement patterns produce
unfavourable biomechanical outcomes,
which could ultimately increase the
likelihood of minor or major injury, while
also having a negative impact on the
physical performance during matches.
HISTORY OF THE KLATT
TEST
The Klatt test is a tool designed by Lois
Klatt, PhD, the director of the Physical
Performance Laboratory at Concordia
College, River Forest, Illinois. The
primary purpose of the test is to help
determine weaknesses in the knee, hip,
pelvis and lower back. A chain is only as
strong as its weakest link, right? So
whether your athlete plays only soccer
or several other sports, it pays to use
this simple evaluation tool to maximize
performance and minimize the risk of
injury.
