INTRODUCING GTL
 GTL is a production factory of EPIC Group
 It was established in October 2012
 Production starts in 2013
 The famous brand “World Mart” is its’ buyer
 It has 1 unit (production unit) & it will be upgraded to 3
units
 It has 4 departments- Sewing, Cutting, Finishing and
Washing
 Its main products are cargo shorts (Three Quarter) &
Baby’s dress
 It has 1200 employees & most of them are women
 It is a modern project where classified ultra- modern
garments technology.

Employment Policy:
 Child labor is not recruited.
 Every candidate must submit Birth certificate/National ID
card before recruitment.
 Joining letter is given to all recruited employees.
 Recruited employees become permanent within 3 to 6
months.
 Paying Policy:
 GTL provides previous month’s salary to all employees
within 7 working days or the next month. Before paying
salary all employees get a pay slip
 Salary is determined in accordance with Labor Law of
Bangladesh Government.
 After finishing daily mandatory working hours (8), every
employee can make an overtime of maximum 2 hours
daily.
Leave Periods:

Grievance Management:
 In case of lay-off, discharge, suspensetion, or removal of
any employee, he/she can submit a written complain
within 30 days of her/his removal from the work
 The authority investigates the workers complain within 15
days and the decision about that worker is taken in written
documents. If management failed to take decision within 15
days or decision seems to be dissatisfactory, then the
worker can file a case to the labor court within the next 30
days.
 Internal Grievance Methods:
Basically, there are 3 methods-
 Written or oral complaints,
 Written complaint through suggestion box, and
 Help desk.
Health & Safety:
 Physical Safety of Workers
 Safety of Fire Prevention
 Safety of Electricity Related Issues
 Safety from Accident in Time of Using Machine
 Safety of Chemicals

 Health Safety:
 The organization has its own refining machine which
provides pure drinking water for the workers.
 There are professional doctors who provide primary
treatment to the workers.
 The organization provides free treatment to the workers
during the working time.
Safety Management:

 GTL Management maintains healthy work


environment in the organization at any cost. The
primary aim of the safety management is to maintain
healthy & safe work environment in and around the
organization. In this regard some steps are:

Findings:

PROBLEMS:

 No Labor Union
 No Collective Bargaining Unit
 Removal of Employees
 Problems of Maternity Allowance
GTL’s Voice Against those Criticized
Points :
 They do not allow labor union. It does not mean that,
GLT does not allow employees participation. There is
an employees’ organization name Workers
Participation Committee (WPC). Organization takes
decision after discussing the matter with WPC
 GTL provides rational salary which is determined by
Bangladesh Government. So collective bargaining is
less important
 Organization cannot run with loss. So GTL can remove
extra labor. But, if such labor does not get any job
than GTL provides him/her 30 days basic in every year.
 GTL should follow Labor Law. So GTL provides
maternity benefits in accordance with labor law.
Concluding Remarks:

 At the end of the Case Study we can see that,


this organization maintain international
standards. At a time they make profit without
violating employee’s rights. Here industrial
relations are highly emphasized. So we can
say that this organization can be a model
among all organizations in Bangladesh.
