as you conduct this. Then answer the following questions:

1. What is your chosen religious ritual about?

For me, I chose Catholic because they have a lot of rituals, but the most important
practice in the Roman Catholic Church is having a mass by receiving the Holy Communion.
Receiving Holy Communion was being part of the Liturgy of the Eucharist, it’s where the
commemorating the Last Supper was by consecrating bread and wine. According to the bible in
Christians, Holy Communion is the remembrance of the body and blood of Jesus that is broken
and poured on the cross. When receiving Holy Communion starts, the people file up to the altar,
row by row, and receive the bread first, which is placed in the hand or on the tongue by the
priest, deacon, or Eucharistic minister. Then, after they take communion, they are supposed to go
back to their seat and kneel where they can think and pray silently about all the things that God
has done for them.

2. Describe your observation and experiences during religious ritual?

I’m not a Catholic, but I attend mass in Catholics because my religions are not here in
Gensan. My religion is Monkadista in Samal, and we call our God our Master, but we have the
same practice like we do the sign of the cross, but the difference is we have no receiving Holy
Communion. However, when I studied my JHS and SHS at Notre Dame of the University,
which is a Catholic school, I learned about the different sacraments that involve in their mass,
rituals, and beliefs in Catholics because we usually do mass gathering in our school chapel. As
far I’ve observed during the mass in receiving the Holy Communion when the priest goes down
in the alter and most of the people will file up to the altar, row by row, and receive the bread
or the host which is
placed in the hand or on the tongue by the priest, deacon, or Eucharistic minister, and they would
say “Amen” before receiving Jesus which means “yes,” that they receive and believe Jesus
Christ. Upon receiving Communion, the people return to their seats and kneel in silent prayer
while waiting for all to partake others host.

3. Why do you think the community believes in ritual?

For me, the community believes in this ritual because receiving Holy Communion helps
to bring you to the fullest in your life with Christ. When you are a little kid, receiving
your first Holy Communion is seen to be a sign that you acknowledge and accept the
responsibilities of a follower of Christ. Also, when you take communion, your spirit is supposed
to become united with Jesus, and it is supposed to bring you closer to Him. They say that the
more times you take communion, the more you love God and your neighbors, which makes you
more Christ-like. Receiving Holy Communion is a way to remove personal guilt and punishment
for sins that you have committed in your lives.

4. How does it affect the members in the community?

In Catholic Church, it offers Holy Communion at every Mass, and out of the seven
sacraments, or rituals, it seems to be the most significant because of God’s presence in the bread
and wine. For me, it can affect the members of the community by bringing the community
together and strengthening their commitment to their faith. Also, this ritual can shape the
community because it trained and attached it to the people to apply it in their everyday lives
when they attend Mass. Aside from these, it influences the people in the community that this
ritual is a way to remove their guilt and punishment for sins they have committed in their lives,
and many people believe in this. Last, it could promote the spiritual well-being of individuals
and families in the community because when they take communion, their relationship with God
will become closer, and this can be able to communicate with God.

As
far I’ve observed during the mass in receiving the Holy Communion when the priest goes down
in the alter and most of the people will file up to the altar, row by row, and receive the bread or
the host which is placed in the hand or on the tongue by the priest, deacon, or Eucharistic
minister, and
