Group Activity 2

Introduction

The Home Guardian organization is mainly focused to aid the renters in need. The nature

of our teamwork has been leading to performance a discussion about identifying strategic issues

that our organization must deal with. As an organization, our deliberation process must be crucial

to analyze all possible issues that may have an unwelcomed impact on our organization’s

mandates, mission and values, product or service level and mix, clients or users, cost, financing,

organization, or management. The renting market in Florida as other rental markets is unstable,

most of the time is changing, therefore our possible emergent strategies to solve these strategic or

operational issues must directly address a solution to improve and maintain a good service to

provide. The structure of the following section is mainly directed to the discussion about: (1) the

tools and methods used to analyze our current strategic issues; (2) The organization's strengths,

weaknesses, opportunities, challenges/threats; (3) and how our organizational strengths and

opportunities may be used to address the weaknesses and challenges/threats.

SWOC/T Analysis

The technique which was used to address external and environmental issues inside our

organization is SWOC/T (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, challenges, and threats) analysis.

This strategic tool is extensively developed in this section, during internal and external

environmental analysis there were found strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. This

section seeks to analyze how to overcome weaknesses and challenges/threats using strengths and

opportunities. This will be analyzed by the implementation of SWOC/T which covers mission,
mandates, and internal and external environmental aspects. Our used approach is recognized as a

direct approach and is probably the most useful to most governments and nonprofit

organizations. In it, planners go straight from a review of mandates, mission, and SWOC/Ts to

the identification of strategic issues (Bryson, 2011, p. 195).

The Home Guardian is different from other aid non-profit organizations because it is

managed by a team board that seeks to improve the personal life of any citizen who is facing this

rental inquiry. Thus, there is a high possibility that our organization will get into different

opportunities and threats as well as have different strengths and problems. According to this

unique situation, we managed to create SWOC/T analysis and to look deeply into those aspects,

the discussion is presented with consistent information that will address one unique direction of

going forward to accomplish our mandates, mission, vision, goals, tasks, and objectives of our

organization.

Strengths

The organization has a number of qualities that will enable it to flourish and grow. To be

successful, any organization needs strong leadership that guides not just the organization, but

also its employees and community in the proper path in order to fulfill its purpose. One of our

primary strengths at United Home Guardian is leadership, with a team of leaders, beginning with

our Executive Director, who aims to engage its membership and other stakeholders to promote

that goal through professional connections, strategic communications, and tactical use of social

media. Our team of leaders have a diverse range of skills that will enable our organization to

flourish and thrive by attracting donations and grants that will help us achieve our goals. Another

asset we have as an organization is our capacity to communicate our message and make our
voices known among communities. We want to have a positive influence not just on people who

seek our services, but also on members of the community who want to learn how to give back,

whether via monetary donations or simply volunteering their time. United Home Guardian is a

nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing about change, advancing the goal, and having a

significant influence on the community.

Weaknesses

Though United Home Guardian displays an array of strengths, our organization also

carries its share of weaknesses. One that currently takes precedence is the size of our

organization. In comparison to the size of the current rent crisis we are facing in Orange County,

our organization has the resources and funds to only partially bring resolution in this region.

Nonetheless, United Home Guardian is making every effort to aid in rent relief. Due to our

smaller size, we cannot see our vision come into full fruition as of yet. As our organization

grows in size and charitable donations, we can make even further progress in aiding the citizens

of Orange County plagued with rent difficulties. Our small size also implies that we currently

have a small team helping to bring our mission to life. Upkeep with the needs of the clients we

serve, as well as our staff is challenging, but obtainable. As an organization we never want to see

employee/volunteer burnout. An additional weakness that United Home Guardian faces is our

lack of stable income. As a nongovernmental entity, the revenue we gain comes from a variety of

sources. However, as we are a growing organization, we are still in the works of developing

relationships and partnerships with others who believe in our mission and are willing to make

lifetime investments into our organization.

How our Strengths Address our Weaknesses

The challenges and issues that our organization as well as the inherent weaknesses within

our organization are far from insurmountable. This section will address the ways that the Home

Guardian’s will use our strengths to address the weaknesses that we have. The reality is that

every organization has their weaknesses, but what really matters is how those weaknesses are

addressed. One of the major weaknesses that Home Guardians will need to address is the

difficulty in persuading people to raise the funds required to apply the interventions we seek to

implement. This can be quite difficult because the economic tensions that create the need for

rental assistance also create conditions that make raising money for nonprofit organizations

difficult. However, this weakness is addressed by the strength we have in our excellent team. An

excellent team of directors will build the sustainable organizational structure that will let us build

fundraising networks that persist through economic hardship. An excellent director of

development gives us the powerful human connection that helps us raise funds for those most in

need. Another weakness that is addressed by our organization's strengths is the small size of the

organization in the face of a looming massive crisis. The reality is that no organization of any

size could address the need for rental aid in totality. However our small size allows us the

adaptability to respond to the rapidly changing rental situations that COVID creates. We are

better able to identify the needs in our community as they happen, rather than playing catch up

after the fact. We believe that Home Guardians is well equipped to address our weaknesses

through smart applications of our strengths.

Opportunities;

* Opportunities refer to favorable external factors that could give an organization a

competitive advantage.
Lower costs: most of the events will move to online based which could reduce our

expenses.

Technological acceleration: technology is changing how we operate in the world. But the

social sector is rapidly being left behind as many organizations struggle to understand and use

technology to its fullest potential. However, we need to realize that technological acceleration

could become an opportunity or a threat to the nonprofit. When nonprofit organizations keep up

to date with the change in technology and try to make the best use of it, the technology can

become an opportunity for nonprofits to help them operate more efficiently and cost-effectively.

Challenges/Threats;

* The challenges/threats refer to the elements in the environment that could cause trouble

for the business or project.

Shortage of recruits: the pandemic will have a significant negative impact on

volunteerism for our organization.

Financial instability: unemployment rate and inflation will make it harder to find a new

donor or keep an existing donor.

Social housing rent increasing: according to the report, Orlando-area rent prices are up

20% since January 2021, the highest increase in market history.

Conclusion

After a careful consideration of the totality of our work and the many strengths and weakness

that our organization faces, we remain confident in our ability to succeed. The core strength of

our excellent team will allow us to face the weaknesses we have. The difficulties of finances and
development are interceded by our strong staff of developement leaders. The instability of the

rental market can be addressed by a quick and adaptable team. We are confident that the

strengths of the Home Guardians will bring us to a place where we will succeed as an

organization. We believe that our team is more than able to address these challenges and that we

will be able to bring major improvement to our community.
