Ans: SWAT refers to “Self-Managed Work Achievement Team”

Que. 2 Definition of SWAT:


Ans: SWAT can be defined as a highly empowered, self regulated sample
making teams who work on the concept of Self-Managed Work Team.

Que. 3 Who are the members of a SWAT team?


Ans: SWAT team members are:
i) Operators
ii) Mechanics
iii) Technician
iv) Supervisor.

Que. 4 How SWAT teams are different from Traditional Teams?


Ans: i) SWAT teams manage work among the team members only.
ii) SWAT team members have no individual designation. Operators,
Mechanics, Technicians, and Supervisors are not considered as individual entity.
All are equally responsible for sewing, maintenance, raw material procurement
and achievement of daily targets.
Although the team has enough freedom to allocate specific responsibilities
among the members whom they think is best suitable for the required jobs.
iii) SWAT team members are multi skilled and they cover the loss due
to absenteeism among themselves by distributing the work of absent team
member.
Que. 5 what is the KPI for SWAT team?
Ans. The KPI for SWAT team is following:
a) OTD: on time Delivery
b) FTT: First Time through

Que. 6 Who Controls SWAT team?


Ans: Internally: A team leader who is also the member of SWAT, virtually is
the one who is responsible and have the authority to command the team.
Meanwhile the team leader is also answerable to the top management.
Externally: The operation manager is responsible to support the SWAT
to assist them in achieving their KPI’s on day to day basis.

Que. 7 How a SWAT Team leader is selected?


Ans: The SWAT team leader is selected by a consensus of the SWAT team
members and Operation manager.

Que. 8 what type of training is given to the traditional team to become a


SWAT team and what are the Procedures for it?
Ans: Procedures:
i) Select the team members.
ii) Name the team as SWAT- 1/2/3… (As applicable)
iii) Train them in following:
a) Single Pc. Flow
b) Effect of Downtime on Production.
c) Analysis of OTD and FTT reports.
d) Overview of Lean manufacturing system
e) Overview of TPM
f) Multi skilling
g) Participative & Conflict Management
