III. DISCUSSION:
When inductors are connected in series, the sum of all individual inductors'
inductance is the equivalent inductance of the combination. This is the same as
series-connected resistors' equivalent resistance. However, in the case of
inductors, the effect of mutual inductance between the inductors must
occasionally be considered. The inductance of each inductor is then calculated by
taking into account both its self-inductance and mutual inductance. Depending on
the polarity of magnetically connected inductors, the mutual inductance will be
added or subtracted from the self-inductance. The effect of mutual inductance
will be discussed later in this text. We can now write the equivalent inductance of
series-connected inductors as, without considering mutual inductances.
