INTRODUCTION

An information system is a collection of interconnected components used to

collect, store, and analyze data as well as to provide information, knowledge, and
digital products. Businesses and other organizations rely on information systems to
carry out and administer their activities, as well as to engage with customers.
Customers and suppliers are their customers, and they compete in the marketplace.
Systems of information are utilized to maintain inter organizational supply
linkages and electronic markets. Corporations, for example, employ information
systems to process financial records, manage human resources, and reach out to
potential customers through online advertisements. Information systems contain
data about important people, places, and things within the organization or in the
surrounding environment. We define information as data that has been fashioned
into a form that is meaningful and valuable to humans. Data, on the other hand, are
streams of raw facts that represent events that occur in organizations or the
physical environment before they are sorted and arranged in a way that people can
understand and use.

Components of Information Systems

Computer hardware and software, telecommunications, databases and data
warehouses, human resources, and procedures are the primary components of
information systems. Information technology (IT) is comprised of hardware,
software, and telecommunications, and it is increasingly interwoven in the
operations and management of enterprises.

According to this concept, the operations management job is divided into three
areas: input, processing, and output. Three operations in a computerized
information system where Computers save and process this information in order to
calculate total orders, track ticket purchases, and so on.to send payment requests to
credit card companies the output comprises of tickets that must be printed. Order
receipts and reports on online ticket orders the system gives useful information
data such as the number of sold tickets, the overall number of tickets sold each
year, and Customers that return frequently. Feedback, which is output that is
returned to appropriate people of the organization to help them evaluate or rectify
the input stage, is also required by information systems.
 Managing input resources - Operations managers must ensure that the
appropriate resources, such as people, equipment, and materials, are
available in sufficient quantities and at the appropriate times to meet the
needs of the operation.

 Process management is the responsibility of all operations managers. A

process is defined as a set of interconnected actions or steps that consume
resources in order to achieve a goal or product.

 Managing outputs - The operations department is in charge of meeting the

needs of consumers by delivering the necessary products or services. The
effectiveness and efficiency of the operation determine how much resource
is required, which has a direct impact on unit cost and profitability.

CONCLUSION

The entire perspective of information system development has evolved

tremendously over the years, and it continues to grow as new technologies emerge
all the time. Data must have a purpose in order to be meaningful. The stored data
should have a purpose that corresponds to the purpose and kind of the information
system. The enhancement of organizations and their information systems is not a
matter of making more information available, but of focusing human attention on
the information that is most important and relevant to the decisions that must be
taken.
