 What is Cell
Referencing?

Cell references can be considered or can be

referred to as cell addresses. A cell reference
refers to a cell or a range of cells on a worksheet
and can be used in a formula so that Microsoft
Office Excel can find the values or data that you
want that formula to calculate.
 What is Cell
Referencing?
It contains one or more letters or an alphabet
followed by a number where the letter or alphabet
indicates the name of the column and the number
for the name of the row.

Because of this, each cell can be located or

identified easily just by its cell reference or
address, e.g., B5

RELATIVE CELL REFERENCES

Relative reference is a type of cell reference in

Excel. This reference changes when the formula is
copied to any other cell or any other worksheet.
Relative cell references are used whenever
calculations need to be repeated. Relative cell
references are the default behavior of any
formula inserted into Excel. Commonly used and
encountered.

Absolute reference in excel is used when we want

to fix the position of the selected cell in any
formula so that its value will be not changed
whenever we are changing the cell or copying the

sign ($) in the row or column coordinate, or both.
