CROSS CALIBRATION OF IONISATION CHAMBER

IAEA DOSIMETRY PROTOCOL TRS 398

Aim:
In the dosimetry protocol (TRS398) based on the absorbed dose standard for water, the
quality index determination of the electron beam is R50, and the accuracy of the dose
measurement is improved. In order to injure it, the standard energy of the electron beam
is R50>7 g/cm2 (E≳16 MeV). It is recommended to cross-calibrate the parallel plate
chamber using the water absorption dose correction factor of the cylindrical chamber.

Materials & Methods :

Electron beam dose measurement is performed Farmer type cylinder of Wellhofer
FC65G,IBA PPC40 was used, and the reference depth in the water phantom
zref =0.6(R50)−0.1(g/cm2). Cross-correction was performed by placing the cylindrical
chamber and the parallel plate chamber in the same position in (cm).

Result:
In this study, the dose measurement of electron beams using a parallel plate chamber. By
cross-calibration based on the cylindrical chamber .The maximum dose calculated by
applying the calculated correction factor. There was a difference of about less than
±1.0%. Dose measurement based on absorbed dose standards for water in IAEA TRS-
398.

Conclusion:
we recommend cross calibrating the Parallel plate chamber with user beam quality as
recommended by the TRS 398 Protocol since the chambers calibrated at laboratories have
Co-60 as their reference beam for which the N D,W will not account for perturbation of
wall. By cross calibrating the results are better improved and the same can be cross
verified with the results using Cylindrical Chambers.
