DISHABA UNDERGROUND VISIT
REPORT
DATE : 25/11/19
Based on the several quality complaints from different mine personnel, we (Mr
Thorburn, Schultz and Myself Jake) had the meeting where we informed the
mine that we have opted on a different supplier for the drill bits and we will
conduct a test to assess the quality and its durability.
The test was to be conducted until the bit lifespan is no longer convenient to be
used.
We tested one drill bit on different sections pending on the arrangements and
availability of the supervisors.
We used different hole lengths from 1.4 to 1.5m.
We took 1 new 32mm 3F 5 button bits.
When we get underground we checked with the supervisor regarding the
quality of compressed air and water.
After water and air was confirmed satisfactory, we provided rock drilling
operator a new drill bit to utilise.
We confirmed the type of rock with the supervisor (UG2 or Merensky)
In most cases we arrived after the working places were already been prepared
and RDO’s are ready to drill.
After the operator have drilled about 3 to 5 holes, we started to measure the
hole lengths.
We calculates the drilling speed on the first 3 to 5 holes drilled.
When they finishes drilling, we counts the amount of holes drilled with the bit.
We take the bit to our possession for analysis.

The bit in picture 9 and 10 2 conditions look fair after it has drilled 77 holes
90.09m on both UG2 and Merensky sections.
No pop outs or crushed buttons observed.
Body of the drill bit was still intact and looked Fair.
The bit could still drill some more holes, the problem was it was drilling little
slower.
