Time: 10am – 4pm

Overview

ECO Singapore is organising an ECO Living Programme for blocks 1 to 8

ECO Living Programme is a community grassroots programme that aims

to relief the burden of low/ middle-income families while doing our bit
for the Earth. We will do this by performing energy, water and waste
audits in HDB households in order to identify and advise on areas for
improvement. It would be a year-long programme that will continuously
engage residents and encourage them to make a commitment to
change.

Objectives

 To have volunteer to understand the programme and its rationale

The Buzz - This will be conducted on the 2nd and 9th April. Volunteers will
go door-to-door to explain the programme to residents and excite them
to sign-up.

Training session for the Buzz was conducted over 3 sessions: 11am-
12.30pm, 1pm-2.30pm, 2.30-4pm.

The session was broken into three main parts:

1. Presentation
2. Role playing of approach
3. Debriefing and addressing outstanding queries

In total, 99 Starbucks volunteers attended the training conducted by

ECO Singapore.

Details of training for “The Buzz”

During the sessions, the volunteers were given a brief overview of the
rationale for the ECO Living Programme as a way to help low/ medium-
income families save on their utilities bill, as well as to make a concrete
impact in reducing energy and water consumption. The volunteers
were then briefed that their role within this programme was to get
residents to sign up as well as conduct the first audit. Although they
were only expected to participate in April, we encouraged them to
continue in this programme on a personal level for subsequent months.

They were also briefed on how to pitch to the residents:

• Cheery greeting!
• Introduce yourself (name, volunteers from Starbucks)
• Working with RC

Finally, some of the volunteers role-

played various scenarios and
everyone had a chance to
comment and suggest
improvements.

Feedback / Area of Improvement

There was a problem with the projector, which led to a 10-minute delay
in the first briefing session. Preparation should be done earlier in the
future to reduce the risk of such delays.

Otherwise, the participants generally seemed to enjoy themselves.
