1. Installing Linux Client / Adding New Client

1.1. Pre-Installation tasks

 PORT 5555
Data Protector uses the default port number 5555. Therefore, this particular port number should not be
used by another program. Some versions of Linux use this number for other purposes. If the port
number 5555 is already in use, you should make it available for Data Protector or you can change the
default port number to an unused port number.

 HOSTNAME
when we want to install either using Local or Remote Installation, are making sure that the Cell
Manager (DEPLOY) or other Installation Server (DB) can make communication with Disk Agent
(New Backup Client) by pinging hostname or FQDN. If their hostname has been allocated inside the
DNS Server so connection can be test by pinging each other with hostname. Otherwise editing the
hosts file on OS was preferable, please write each hostname and the IP Address inside file hosts on
using vi or other editing tools. Add CM and IS on hosts file :

- On Client Side

[root@euthenia] # vi /etc/hosts

Figure 1. New Client Hosts file

- On Installation Server (for linux installation using DB Server)
[root@euthenia] #vi /etc/hosts

Figure 2. Hosts File at Installation Server DB

- On Cell Manager ( for Windows installation using DEPLOY Server)

Go to run by pressing + R , type drivers then it will appear new explorer which directed to
the folder “C:\Windows\System32\drivers” choose etc folder then open with notepad file hosts
then you can start to edit and fill the new name of client backup.

1.2. Local Installation
If some reason you cannot remotely install a client system from Cell Manager (DEPLOY), Data Protector
clients can be installed locally from the Linux installation on DVD-ROM or zip package that has been
provided before. We can get the source on DB server (172.16.3.7) on directory /opt.
If there were a new client wants to install as a disk agent backup, from the new client linux can copy from
DB server using SCP protocol using root access,
e.g. [root@newclients]# scp -r 172.16.3.7:/opt/

* Note : before you start to install this agent by local installation package, make sure you have root
permission to proceed this action.

From the Mount_Point/LOCAL_INSTALL directory run the omnisetup.sh command.

The syntax of the command is as follows :
omnisetup.sh [-source directory] [-server name] [-install component_list]
where:
• directory is the location where the installation source is placed. If not specified, the current directory
is used.
• name is a full hostname of the Cell Manager of the cell to which you want to import the client. If
not specified, the client will not be automatically imported to the cell.

The example below shows how you can install the Disk Agent and user interface on a client that will
be automatically imported to the cell with the Cell Manager DEPLOY:
./omnisetup.sh -source /opt/linux/dp_depot/xxxx -server deploy -install da,cc

Setup informs you if the installation was completed and if the client was imported to the Data
Protector cell.

1.3. Remote Installation

It’s a procedure for distributing the Data Protector software to clients using the Installation Server (remote
installation or upgrade). Distribute the software to clients using the Data Protector user interface. Cross-
platform client installation is supported.

* Recommendation :
UNIX systems : For security reasons, it is recommended to use secure shell for the Data Protector
remote installation. If secure shell is not available, the legacy UNIX tools rsh and rexec are
automatically used by the Data Protector remote installation.
To use secure shell (SSH), install and set up OpenSSH on both, the client and Installation Server. If
your private key is encrypted, install and set up keychain on the Installation Server.
Below are the step to start modifying ssh on the new system :

1. Add Authorize_key that generate by ssh-keygen on the DB Server (Installation Server) to new client.
There are two option to this action :
Option 1
By copying the authorized_keys from DB Server to New Client server using SCP
[root@db .ssh]# scp -r authorized_keys *newclient*:/root/.ssh/

Figure 4. option 1 for copying authorized_keys

Option 2
By edit or create new file of authorized_keys on folder .ssh on new client backup and fill with the
keygen (rsa & dsa) ssh from db server :

* for multiple installation on a few servers, it can be done by add multiple server hostname when we put the
