Course Objectives
To equip students with a sound knowledge about pile foundations, cofferdams and caissons,
foundations of expansive soils and environmental issues in soil mechanics and foundation areas.

Competences to be acquired

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

 Design deep foundations such as piles and pile raft foundations.
 Understand & interpret the behavior of expansive soils and be able to design
foundations on expansive soils and take remedial measures.
 Understand the environmental issues in geotechnical Engineering.
