GLOBAL CONCRETE: TOP 30 CONCRETE PRODUCERS

Global Concrete Report 2021

Concrete is the main constituent of modern civilisation. In this second edition of the Global
Concrete Report, Global Cement reviews trends in global concrete production in 2020-2021.
This edition includes the new Global Concrete Top 30, a run-down of the 30 leading ready-
mix concrete producers around the world, with detailed reports on each producer.

GLOBAL CONCRETE: TOP 10 COUNTRIES

Top 10 Countries 2021

As is the case with companies, a large proportion of the world’s concrete is produced by a
relatively small number of countries. The Global Concrete Report 2021’s new Global Concrete
Top 10 lists the largest from 2020. This will provide the basis for a country-by-country
analysis of global ready-mix concrete production.

sions reduction targets on 25 June 2021. The group is
now targeting a 165kg/m3 reduction in its concrete’s
carbon footprint between 1990 and 2030.2 It plans
to invest US$60m/yr in efforts to meet the new tar-
gets. Key methods include producing concrete using
requisitioned industrial exhaust gas-carbonated
recycled concrete aggregates, which are currently
under development at Cemex France’s National
Technical Centre in Paris, Île-de-France. Chief
executive officer Fernando Gonzalez said “Climate
action is the biggest challenge of our times, and
Cemex is taking decisive action to address it. We
commit to continue leading the industry in climate
action.” The producer’s full-year 2020 CO2 emissions
reduction was 8.6Mt against the 1990 baseline, cor-
responding to a 23% reduction in CO2 emissions
per tonne of cementitious product. Subsequently, it
brought forward its previous 2030 target of a 35%
emissions reduction to 2025. In January 2021 alone,
Cemex launched operations at seven new sustain-
able growth investments across Europe. These
included a new lightweight concrete plant in Spain.
Cemex took a major step towards its target
of 100% net-zero CO2 concrete by 2050 with the
launch of its Vertua low and net-zero CO2 concrete
range in several European markets in mid-2020.3
