ISO 9000

o In order to bring quality in the product a scenario many organization are adopting the quality
assurances system.
o The quality assurance systems are the organization structures that are used to bring quality in
responsibities, procedure, processes & resources.
o If you have heard of ISO 9000, then it is most probably through ISO 9001, ISO 9002 or ISO 9003,
the three quality assurance models from the ISO9000:1994 standard against which organizations can
be certified.
o At some stage, you have probably wondered what the difference between them is. The answer is that
the difference is simply one of scope. (ISO9000:2000 merges ISO9002 and ISO9003 into ISO9001).
o ISO 9000 is a family of quality assurance system it can be applied to all types of organization.
o It can help both product & service oriented organization to achieve standard of quality .ISO 9000 is
maintained by ISO, the international organization standardization & is administrated by a
coordination of certification bodies.
o This process is called registration ISO 9000. A successful registration the company gets a
certification from coordination radiation bodies of ISO. Such a company is then called "is a certified
company".
o ISO 9000 specifies required for a quality system that can be applied to any size or type of
organization.
o Document the quality management system.
o Support the quality.
o Satisfies the customer.
o Establish quality policy.
o Control customer process.
o Control monitoring information.
o Make quality improve.
o The ISO 9000 helps to creating organization. Quality manual these quality manuals identify
organization quality processes.

o ISO 9001:1987 Model for quality assurance in design, development, production, installation, and
servicing was for companies and organizations whose activities included the creation of new
products.

o ISO 9002:1987 Model for quality assurance in production, installation, and servicing had basically
the same material as ISO 9001 but without covering the creation of new products.

o ISO 9003:1987 Model for quality assurance in final inspection and test covered only the final
inspection of finished product, with no concern for how the product was produced.

o ISO 9001:2008 only introduces clarifications to the existing requirements of ISO 9001:2000 and
some changes intended to improve consistency with ISO 14001:2004.
o So, an organization chooses that its quality system be certified against ISO 9001, ISO 9002 or ISO
9003 according to the business processes covered by the quality system. There is no difference of
quality ranking between the three standards.

ISO 9001

ISO 9001 sets out the requirements for an organization whose business processes range all the way from
design and development, to production, installation and servicing.

ISO 9002

For an organization which does not carry out design and development, ISO 9002 is the appropriate
standard, since it does not include the design control requirements of ISO 9001 - otherwise, its
requirements are identical.

ISO 9003

ISO 9003 is the appropriate standard for an organization whose business processes does not include
design control, process control, purchasing or servicing, and which basically uses inspection and testing
to ensure that final products and services meet specified requirements.

ISO 10006:2003

o ISO 10006:2003 gives guidance on the application of quality management in projects.

o It is applicable to projects of varying complexity, small or large, of short or long duration, in
different environments, and irrespective of the kind of product or process involved. This can
necessitate some tailoring of the guidance to suit a particular project.
o ISO 10006:2003 is not a guide to "project management" itself. Guidance on quality in project
management processes is discussed in this International Standard. Guidance on quality in a
project's product-related processes, and on the "process approach", is covered in ISO 9004. A
new "Project Management - Guide to project Management" ISO 21500 is in preparation (2008).
o Since ISO 10006:2003 is a guidance document, it is not intended to be used for
certification/registration purposes.
