How did it make me feel?
Amazement, enlightenment and thankfulness are the feelings that came to me
when I viewed the webinar. Firstly, the professionals brought to me many novel
perspectives on both career development and life values. These viewpoints which are
from highly experienced people forced me to reconsider my own philosophy of life and
work. For instance, Jeremy Khoh’ presentation about seeking appropriate personal
“ladder” and “window” (2020) forced me to reconsider my career choice and to take a
closer look at my intended plan in career development. Secondly, the instructions from
the speakers gave my many useful tips to improve many aspects of my life. The tactics
for effective communication, especially regular breathing (Fenton-Menzies, 2020), will
contribute enormously to my future improvement in communication and concentration.
What connections can you make to the weekly readings you have
learned so far?
This conference emphasized several weekly portfolios’ reading: “Communication
in the Workplace” (“CiW”), “Networking-It's Always Who You Know” (“NIAWYK”),
“Organising Work Life Balance” (OWLB) and “Jump-Start Your Career” (“JSYC”) (Rentz
and Lent, 2015; Blackett, 2019; Ferrett, 2018) found in 200914 Working in Professions
(Prasad, 2020). Firstly, Leizer (2020) emphasize the importance of networking and
teamwork by sharing the experiences in her daily work in public service, which was a
confirmation of the information in the item “The Formal Network” in chapter “CiW”
(Rentz and Lentz, 2015, as cited in Prasad, 2020, p. 123). Moreover, graduates should
enhance their network by connecting to the people who share the “ladder” with them
(Khoh, 2020), which also agrees with information in section “Networking - It’s always
who you know” (Blackett, 2019, as cited in Prasad, 2020, p. 182-218). Secondly, the
strategies to construct a suitable hierarchy of priorities in life and pick an industry or a
position consciously (Khoh, 2020) is an advanced reasoning that empowers the theories
in “OWLB” (Ferrett, 2018) and “JSYC” (Blacett, 2019) (as cited in Prasad, 2020, p. 483-
549). The “ladder” can be further interpreted as a unique hierarchy of priorities which, in
turn, is heavily affected by the personal unique set of characteristics. The “window” is a
result of the activities throughout the chapter “ECO”.
