Don’t Just Take Our Word For It –

From group assistance to one-on-one assistance, the ESL

program has helped me in many tremendous ways throughout
my four years of high school. This program has three amazing
teachers that are willing to help you with all types of class work.
The ESL program benefited me by giving me a quiet and
comfortable environment that offered assistance when needed
and helped me advance in my school work. They don’t push you
off to the side or give you one word answers; instead, they come
and engage with you and go step-by-step, as many times as
needed, until you feel comfortable. – Mimi, Class of 2021

Whenever I struggle in class, I

come to ESL and they help me.
Even when I was virtual student, I
knew I could count on them for
help when I needed it. They are
always there to assist support

Moving from Mexico to Texas was an

adjustment for me. I struggle with the
assignments and language. When I enrolled
at EHS, my grades were suffering and after a
few talks with Ms. Garcia, Mrs. Vargas, and
Ms. Smith, my grades went up. I wanted to
give up many times, but they wouldn’t let me.
I am the first in my family to graduate with a
high school diploma. I am grateful for the
program because I could easily have went
down a different path. – Brayan, Class of

A Final How ESL Helped Me

Word
Immigrating to the United States with little knowledge of the English
language was certainly one of the biggest challenges I have faced in life
thus far. Despite how intimidating the task of learning a new language
may seem, I refused to let fear take over me, for doing so would only
impede my growth. I was extremely blessed (and so are you) during my
time in high school to have plenty of resources that aided me throughout
my journey in mastering the language, one of which is the ESL program.
Personally, ESL was extremely beneficial to my mastering of the English
language for three reasons: the program provided me with strong
foundational knowledge of the language, instilled confidence in me, and,
last but not least, continued to support me even after transitioning into a
regular English class.

The first step in mastering a new language is to learn the fundamentals.

My ESL teachers did a wonderful job of ensuring that I developed a
strong foundation of the language by teaching me about grammar rules
and vocabulary words, which, consequently, instilled confidence in me
by helping me put what I learned into practice through intensive writing
and speaking. Despite learning the language well enough to be placed
into a regular English class, I still found myself occasionally struggling to
complete some of the tasks in my other classes due to language barrier.
To address the problem, I utilized the resources available to me such as
the ESL lab, which partnered me with ESL teachers who helped me
complete my homework problems and projects by thoroughly
explaining to me what I am having difficulty understanding while
simultaneously ensuring that I learned something new, which further
helped me master the English language.
