BCAE III

Describe the arts/ crafts of the different town/provinces of the CALABARZON region,

CAVITE
Cavite is the most populous province in the country. From the land of tulisanes
during the Spanish time, Cavite is now the haven of foreign investors and for those who
are looking for a greener pasture.

Tinis – tradition that narrates the story how Joseph and Mary
found a Place to give birth to Jesus (Kawit)

Karakol- tradition of dancing during fiesta Celebrations

Santacruzan is a religious-historical beauty pageant


held in many cities, towns and even small villages
throughout the Philippines during the month of
May.
LAGUNA

Taka- refers to paper mache made using carved wooden


sculpture used as a mold. The craft originated in the town
of Paete, Laguna in the Philippines.

Wood Carving-the Church of Santiago Apostol, a declared


National Historical Site. It is filled with woodcarvings that
Paeteños have carved collectively for many decades,
centuries even. This includes the beautifully carved
retablo and the life-size Last Supper, complete with the 12
apostles, sitting around the rectangle dining table.

SAMPAGUITA FESTIVAL -is a week-long celebration


which includes ,various activities ranging from cultural to
athletics, trade fairs, dance contests, parades, art-
exhibits, social and religious gatherings, tribal dance and
sports exhibitions in San Pedro, Laguna, Philippines.
BATANGAS

SUBLIAN FESTIVAL
- A two week long celebration which culminates
every year on the 23rd of July, is rooted in the
Batangueños devotion to the town's patron: the Holy
Cross in Bauan and Agoncillo, and the Sto. Niño in
Batangas City. This religious devotion translated to a
dance from indigenous to Batangas: the Subli.

BALISONG
A balisong, also known as a fan knife, butterfly knife
or Batangas knife, is a folding pocketknife. Its
distinct features are two handles counter-rotating
around the tang such that, when closed, the blade is
concealed within grooves in the handles. A balisong
typically has the latch on the handle facing the
cutting edge, and is commonly called the bite
handle.

RIZAL
HIGANTES FESTIVAL- Higantes are giant paper
mache images measuring four to five feet in
diameter and ten to twelve feet in height. The
street event leads to a fluvial procession in Laguna
de Bay, however, the festivities continue until the
image is returned to its sanctuary.

SUNBINGTIK FESTIVAL
The SumBingTik Festival is an annual cultural
festival held on December 1 in Cainta, Rizal,
along the town's founding, anniversary and
feast of Our Lady of Light, the patron saint of
the town. The festival was first celebrated in
2014.

PETROGLYPHS are petroglyphs carved into a rock


wall in Angono, Rizal, Philippines. It consists of 127
human and animal figures engraved on the
rockwall probably carved during the late Neolithic,
or before 2000 BC. They are the oldest known
work of art in the Philippines
QUEZON

PAHIYAS FESTIVAL - Quezon Province, which is celebrated on


the 15th of May. Quezon, formerly known as Tayabas, is the
second largest province in the Southern Tagalog region. The
Pahiyas festival is simultaneously celebrated in the towns of
Lucban. Because of its extravagant preparations which by
tradition started during the 16th century as a way of
thanksgiving for the people’s bountiful harvest.
