Theories of Attitudinal and Behavioural Change 1
A commentary
Perugini and Bagozzi (2001) confirm that the TPB offers a parsimonious model to explain
purposive behaviour, but lack of sufficient consistency. The main shortcoming is that the
model focuses only on behaviour as a terminal outcome and fails to deal with the goal-
directed behaviours (Lisa et al., 2015). In other words, although attitude toward the
behaviour, SN and PBC give reasons for performing a behaviour, but it does not include
motivation for inducing the translation of intentions into action or doing the behaviour. Users
of health apps usually establish behavioural goals to change their behaviour such as weight
loss, hence a need for another model to explain the behaviour.
