A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SOCIAL STUDIES II

I. Objectives
At the end of 60 minute lesson, with 80% proficiency level, students should be able
to:
a. identify the Philosophies and beliefs of Hinduism;
b. write a reflection using bubble quotes on Hinduism; and
c. appreciate and give respect to the Philosophies and beliefs of Hinduism.

Materials: Printed reference, Images, Manila paper, Pentel pen, DLP and Laptop,

- Our lesson for today is all about


Hinduism.
- Hinduism is the oldest religion in the
world.
- Hindus believed in 300 million gods
that represent natural forces and
personified gods.
- Brahma, the creator.
- Vishnu, lesser god and the preserver.
- Shiva the destroyer.
- With nine versions of divine mother,
an elephant god, a sun god, earth
god, rat god, monkey god, etc.
- Other beliefs concerning to herbal
medicine (ayurveda), yoga (physical
exercise), karma (destiny),
reincarnation (a cycle of births and
deaths); with the perfected soul
being absorbed into Brahma, the
creator and source of true happiness.
- A Hindu believes there are many
paths to God. None is better than any
other; all are equal.
- The Vedas is the analogy of bible to
Hindu. It is the most sacred and
reflects the life and culture of Indian.
 Rig Veda – first of the four
Vedas. The important philosophy
of Rig Veda was the “Truth is
One, but the sages speak of it by
many names.”
 Sama Veda – Veda of sacred
song
 Yajur Veda – Veda for religious
activity
 Atharva Veda – Veda of
knowledge.
- Each Vedas composes, samhitas
(hymn), brahmanas (rituals),
aranyakas (theologies), Upanishads
(philosophies).
- Two important epics Mahabharata
the longest epic in the world and
Ramayana the shortest epic.
- Caste System
 Brahmans (Brahmins) –
Priests.
 Kshatriyas – warriors, rulers.
 Vaisyas – Commoners or the
common people
 Sudras – unskilled laborers and
servants.
 Parians – Slaves, untouchables,
outcastes.
