HISTORY
On April 3, 1957, Mr. Alberto Mena
Caamaño donated his valuable
collection of art objects and
documents accumulated throughout
his life to the Municipality of Quito.
Two years later, on November 9,
1959, the Museum inaugurated
takes its name.
The new permanent exhibition offer
for the museum of Alberto Mena
Caamaño called "from Quito
Ecuador" and will be a trip from
1700 to 1830, from Pedro Vicente
Maldonado to the outbreak of the
new independent republic that
decided on the name of Ecuador.
The museum's collections will be
managed in temporary thematic
exhibitions distributed in four rooms
and a conceptual site, which will allow
the visitor to understand, interpret,
reflect and interact with the exhibited

The Alberto Mena Caamaño
Museum includes:
Permanent exhibition of modern
Ecuadorian art, which is based on

The permanent historical exhibition
"of Quito Ecuador", which takes the
visitor on a route from Pedro
Vicente Maldonado to the first cry of
independence and martyrdom on
August 2, 1810, and culminates in
the wax museum.
The scene of August 2, 1810, in
figures of the wax, inspired by a
painting by Cesar Villacres and
made by the Frenchman Alexander
Barbieri. The statues are located in
the same place where the proceres
were killed by the military.
