II. COURSEDESCRIPTION – NEED ANALYSIS
1. What does this course provide students with, in relation to other subjects and to itself in the previous and subsequent year?
• This course is for students aiming to further their abilities in all four skills; reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
• It will provide students with a basic understanding of the IELTS test structure as well as numerous grammatical and lexical elements of great
use in both the IELTS test as well as in general English.
• A wide range of bimonthly topics will provide students with an insight into global and social issues. Apart from this, students will be
encouraged to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to assess key themes within each topic and to convey that information to
others using the IELTS test as a framework.
• It aims to help students to achieve 6.5 in their overall band score
2. How and where can students apply the skills and knowledge provided in this course?
• Apart from the IELTS exam, students will be able to apply these skills in everyday English usage, as well as in any other subjects that require
an assessment, internalization, analysis, manipulation, and expression of media or themes for critical or descriptive purposes.
3. Who is this course for?
• This course is for students looking to improve their overall English skills whilst also gaining an understanding of the IELTS test structure.
• Students should have a band score of between 5.0-6.0

III. COURSE OBJECTIVES

V. POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
1. Subject Rules and policies
- Students must arrive on time for class. A student arriving later than 5 minutes after class has started must provide an acceptable reason or be
marked as ‘absent’ for that lesson.
- Students must complete homework assignments promptly and diligently. Failure to complete homework assignments will result in deductions
on their final score and notification of their advisors/parents.
- Students must take the initiative to expose themselves to English situations outside of the classroom. Watching English movies, listening to
English radio and reading English news articles is highly recommended.
- Above all, IELTS is a highly structured, theory-based course. It requires a strong internal motivation from the students in order to succeed.
