Even in the world of odd inventions, this one is still very strange, for Puchkov, who has been

building his submarine for around 20 years, the idea of a self-powered vessel was always an
odd one. He uses an old-fashioned compass and maps for navigation and a small bottle for
oxygen. Puchkov build the sub in secrete during his spare time. He was secretive about where
the money came from, but he got some materials from a local steel mill. One time when he
was sailing his sub was stuck in a logjam, he was forced to come to the surface. The KGB
arrested Puchkov after seizing his submarine and searching it for traces of his accomplices.
For a week, he was held in custody. On sunny days, he likes to sail to the deserted islands in
the Gulf of Finland
