1. INTRODUCTION

The National Highways Authority of India was constituted by an act of Parliament, the
National Highway Authority of India Act, 1988. It is responsible for the development,
maintenance and management of National Highways entrusted to it and for matters
connected or incidental thereto. The Authority was operationalized in February, 1995
with the appointment of full time Chairman and other Members.

Title of the project:- Six laning of Chilakaluripet – Vijayawada section of NH-5 from
km.355+000 To km.437+750 in the state of Andhra Pradesh to
be executed as BOT(Toll) On DBFO pattern under NHDP
phase-V

2. PURPOSE

The 28 Road Safety week will be observed from 9 January to 15
January 2017. The purpose of Road Safety Week is to make public to
understand the importance of road safety. The theme of the road safety week
is “Your Safety Secures Your Family - Be Cautious on Road”. Thousands
of people get killed and thousand more are seriously injured every year in
road accidents. Accident causing loss of human life as well as loss of
properties. The National Highway Authority of India has taken the
responsibility to educate the general public by participating enthusiastically in
the road safety week occasion.

As part of 28 road safety week program, the following activates have been carried out at
specified locations and action plan wise listed out below:

Road safety week has been inaugurated at toll plaza duly participating stake holders of state government
such as A.P. Police, A.P Transport Department and public.

The following officers were participated in the inaugural ceremony:-

1) IG of Police, South coastal zone, Guntur range, Government of AP.

2) Dy Superintend of Police, North Guntur, Government of AP.

3) Motor vehicle Inspector, Mangalagiri, Government of AP.

4) Safety Officer, NHAI, Vijayawada, Government of India.

5) Project Director, PIU, Vijayawada, Government of India.

6) Team Leader of Aarvee Associates and their team.

7) Auto Drivers Association of Mangalagiri.

8) Lorry Owners Association, Guntur.

9) Concessionaire Team and IJM (India) Infra structure Maintenance Team.

In this program IG of Police has released Book-let regarding Safe Highways- Reflective

Stickering Campaign – A Road Safety Initiative.


In this program safety officer of NHAI has released Pamphlet containing information about
the road safety signs and other necessary instructions.

In this program Project Director NHAI, Vijayawada has released Safety reflex red triangles
which are useful during the break-down of vehicles on the carriageway.

In this program more than 400 no’s of public has been participated.

Program has been organized by Team Leader of Aarvee Associates, Vijayawada.

In this program IG of Police has delivered a highest valuable speech regarding importance of

safety, drunken drive , insurance coverage to victims, over speed, lane discipline with live
example to reach effectively to the public.

In this program safety officer of NHAI has delivered speech on statistics of accidents on National
highways as well state highways and its importance safety education to be implemented

on National Highways.

In this program Project Director ,NHAI, Vijayawada has delivered speech on importance of

Enforcement Drive:

• Placing of retro reflective stickering on rear-side of trucks at toll plaza with the support of AP
Police and AP Transport Department. In this program 50 nos commercial has been pasted with
rear side stickering Separate report is enclosed.

• Drunk and Drive test has been carried out at toll plaza with the help of AP Police, in this
program a total 10 cases were registered by police department , however total 95 nos of drivers
were checked in Vijayawada – Guntur direction,. A separate report sheet is enclosed.

Other Activities :

• Educating the drivers regarding over speed at toll plaza through mike announcement.

• Educating the drivers for usage of helmets at toll plaza through mike announcement.

• Educating the drivers for usage of seat-belts at toll plaza through mike announcement.

• Educating the drivers regarding lane-discipline and traffic rules at other important junctions
through Highway patrolling vehicles by public addressing system.

• Necessary flex banners as well as hoardings were displayed at important locations such as. Toll
plaza, habitation areas, nearby schools / education institutes and other important junctions.

• Distribution of pamphlets to road users regarding traffic signs which are useful while driving
and other road safety rules at toll plaza and way-side amenities has been taken up.

As a part of safety week today awareness program has given to the school children and teachers
of Chinakakani and Pedakakani. After awareness program quiz and interaction program
regarding road safety features has been initiated and winners are complimented with gifts to
create interest on safety awareness and implementation of safety in their daily life.

As a part of safety program we have invited the District Transport Commissioner as a chief guest
and safety officer from Regional Office, NHAI to promote the safety awareness effectively to
the road users accordingly, both officers has visited the toll plaza and witnessed the enforcement
drive of drunk and drive
Enforcement Drive:

• Placing of retro reflective stickering on rear-side of trucks at toll plaza and Edlapadu Village i.e
KM 374 +000 with the support of AP Police and AP Transport Department. In this program
47nos commercial has been pasted with rear side stickering Separate report is enclosed.

• Drunk and Drive test has been carried out at toll plaza with the help of AP Police and transport
department in this program a total 8 nos cases were registered by police department , however
total 106 no’s of drivers were checked in Vijayawada – Guntur direction,. A separate report
sheet is enclosed.

Other Activities :

• Educating the drivers regarding over speed at toll plaza through mike announcement.

• Educating the drivers for usage of helmets at toll plaza through mike announcement.

• Educating the drivers for usage of seat-belts at toll plaza through mike announcement.

• Educating the drivers regarding lane-discipline and traffic rules at other important junctions
through Highway patrolling vehicles by public addressing system.

• Necessary flex banners as well as hoardings were displayed at important locations such as. Toll
plaza, habitation areas, nearby schools / education institutes and other important junctions.

• Distribution of pamphlets to road users regarding traffic signs which are useful while driving
and other road safety rules at toll plaza and way-side amenities has been taken up.

• Placing of hoarding of size 12*20 feet duly having a message “SEAT BELT IS ARMER
WHILE DRIVING” at Km.437.00

• Placing of hoarding of size 12*20 feet duly having a message “STAY ALIVE DON’T DRINK
AND DRIVE” at Km.436+000(Near Varadhi)

• Placing of hoarding of size 12*20 feet duly having a message “ZEBRA CROSSING IS FOR
PEDESTRAINS ONLY” at Km 435+000 (Manipal Junction)

• Placing of hoarding of size 12*20 feet duly having a message “HELEMT IS FOR YOUR
OWN SAFETY DO NOT TAKE CHANCE PILLION RIDER ALSO” at Km.421+000(
Near Toll gate)

• Placing of hoarding of size 12*20 feet duly having a message “LIMIT SPEED FOR YOUR
OWN SAFETY” at Km 365+300 (Near Ganapavaram)
• Placing of hoarding of size 12*20 feet duly having a message “HELP ACCIDENT VICTIM”
at Km373+600(Edlapadu)

• Placing of hoarding of size 12*20 feet duly having a message “TRAFFIC SIGNS” at
Km396+700 ( Ankireddy palem junction)

• Placing of hoarding of size 12*20 feet duly having a message “AVOID RISKY ROAD
CROSSING” at Km.411+400

• Toll collectors are educating the road users for fastening of seat belt.

• Highway patrolling vehicles are continuously educating the road users for not to travel on contra
flow direction.

road users for proper usage of exit/entry ramps for the specific purpose.

3 day of Road safety week started at toll plaza and other locations of Project stretch duly participating
stake holders of state government such as A.P. Police, A.P Transport Department, R&B Department and
public.

The following officers were participated in the Third day of road safety week:

• Superintendent Engineer of R&B Department, Guntur, Guntur Dist, Govt. of AP

• Project Director, NHAI, PIU Vijayawada.

• Safety Officer, Regional office, NHAI, Vijayawada, Government of India.

• Sri Veda High School, Boyapalem –consists of to 500 no’s of students and 10 no’s of teachers.

• JMJ E.M. High School, Nambur – consists of 200 no’s of students, 8 no’s of teachers and 10 nos
school bus drivers.

• Team Members of Aarvee Associates actively participated in all the seminars and
pamphlets distribution to the road users at various road junctions.

• Concessionaire Team and IJM (India) infra structure Maintenance Team.

As a part of safety week, today awareness program has been conducted to the school students,
teachers and school bus drivers at Boyapalem and Nambur schools. After awareness program
quiz and interaction program carried out on road safety signs, winners are complimented with
gifts to create interest on safety awareness and implementation of safety in their daily life.

As a part of safety program, the Superintendent Engineer of R&B department, Guntur has
inaugurated the distribution of safety reflex red triangles to the truck users which are useful
during the vehicle break down on road. The Regional Safety officer of National Highway
Authority of India also attended this inauguration program conducted by the Concessionaire and
distributed the reflective triangles to tuck users. 50no’s of safety reflex red triangles distributed
to truck drivers.
Enforcement Drive:

• Placing of retro reflective stickering on rear-side of trucks at toll plaza and Edlapadu Village i.e
KM 374 +000 with the support of AP Police and AP Transport Department. In this program 19
nos commercial has been pasted with rear side stickering Separate report is enclosed.

• Drunk and Drive test has been carried out at toll plaza with the help of AP Police and AP
transport department in this program a total 4 nos cases were registered by police department ,
however total 100 no’s of drivers were checked in Vijayawada – Guntur direction,. A separate
report sheet is enclosed.

• AP Transport department has conducted a special drive regarding checking of licenses, fitness,
valid permits etc. at our toll plaza. In this program 8 nos cases were registered by the AP
transport department however, total 41 nos of vehicles were checked in Vijayawada to Guntur
direction.

4 day of Road safety week started at toll plaza and other locations of Project stretch duly participating
stake holders of state government such as A.P. Police, A.P Transport Department, R&B Department and
public.

The following officers were participated in the Fourth day of road safety week:

• Project Director, NHAI, PIU Vijayawada.

• Safety Officer, Regional office, NHAI, Vijayawada, Government of India.


• Nirmala English & Telugu medium high school, Athamakuru – consists of 2500 no’s of
students, 25 no’s of teachers and 10 nos school bus drivers.

• Team Members of Aarvee Associates actively participated in all the seminars and
pamphlets distribution to the road users at various road junctions.

• Concessionaire Team and IJM (India) infra structure Maintenance Team.

As a part of safety week, today awareness program has been conducted to the school students,
teachers and school bus drivers at Boyapalem and Nambur schools. After awareness program
quiz and interaction program carried out on road safety signs, winners are complimented with
gifts to create interest on safety awareness and implementation of safety in their daily life.

As a part of safety program, we have conducted free medical eye camp at toll plaza, the program
was inaugurated by Project director, PIU, Vijayawada and Dr M N Raju , chief of

ophthalmologist , sandya eye hospital, Vijayawada, in this program 62 nos of truck drivers has
attended and verified their eye vision, out of which 15 nos of drivers has got vision problem and
arranged the required spectacles by the Concessionaire with free of cost
Enforcement Drive:

Placing of retro reflective stickering on rear-side of trucks at toll plaza and Edlapadu Village i.e KM 374
+000 with the support of AP Police and AP Transport Department. In this program 11 nos commercial
has been pasted with rear side stickering Separate report is enclosed.

Drunk and Drive test has been carried out at toll plaza with the help of AP Police and AP transport
department in this program a total 2 nos cases were registered by police department , however total 59
no’s of drivers were checked in Vijayawada – Guntur direction, A separate report sheet is enclosed.

Other Activities :

• Educating the drivers regarding over speed at toll plaza through public announcement.

• Educating the drivers for usage of helmets at toll plaza through public announcement.

• Educating the drivers for usage of seat-belts at toll plaza through public announcement.
