i. Clinical staff members are not washing their hands between patients

Hygiene is an important aspect within a patient environment. As stated earlier, different

policies have been set that would require attain the hygiene condition of the clinical staff member

especially those who are not washing their hands between the patients. Though monitoring

hygiene is difficult, an effective monitoring of hygiene interventions and services of hygiene

practices requires different approaches from the sanitation monitoring. Monitoring of hand

washing behavior change generally presents challenges in terms of reliability and feasibility.

Some of the monitoring processes include; (Gould, 2017).

Use of the electronic compliance system would help in combating the rising tide of health

care associated infections in the health cares. Hand hygiene involves disinfecting hands with

either alcohol or soap and water which would prevent the spread of the infectious diseases since
ou urc
the healthcare facilities are at a higher risk clinical staff members being the main target. This

would reduce unnecessary infections in the health care facilities and incorporating a protocol that

would incorporate and improve hand washing standards would be efficient. The use of the

system would help as it uses technology in preventing any infections. This should be encouraged

to be used in hospitals and other healthcare facilities (Kelly, 2016).

Leadership commitment in hand hygiene is would help in monitoring the hand hygiene in

the health care facilities. They are able to encourage people into observing the hygiene and also
Th

in ensuring that the set policies are being followed. Being the example in all this process, they

have to be visible and engaging to the organization and also the public through communication,
sh

hand hygiene education, promotions and event sponsorships (Latif, 2015).

The creation of the disciplinary response team would also help in monitoring of the

hygiene of the clinical staffs. This would be much easier given that they would have a

responsibility in monitoring hygiene. The disciplinary response team should also implement

some of the disciplinary measures that would be effected incase this policies are violated. This

would help in promoting hygiene in the facility (Halim, 2015).

Providing an ongoing education on the importance of hygiene would also help as the staff

members would be able to know the importance of hygiene and not act like they are being

burdened. The instructive posters and pocket cards and brochures that may be used in training

m

would help a lot in maintaining this policies.

Providing reminders on hygiene throughout the health care settings may also help in

monitoring the hygiene conditions in the facility. Even implementing the goals of the health care

facility as attaining a high level of hygiene may also help as it would act as a reminder in
o

between the healthcare officers. The organization may also provide real time feedback from the

observers, coworkers, patients and also the patients (Halim, 2015).

Developing monitoring programs also helps at large in achieving hygiene of the staff in a

healthcare setting. A post monthly compliance data on the hospitals units or the hospitals

websites and this findings may be discussed during a staff meeting. This would help in knowing
is

the strategies that may be set and also what improvements should be made. Resources may also
Th

be provided and ensure that they are accessible thought the organization (Pronovost, 2015).

Employees are not knowledgeable in the use of fire extinguishers

Knowing how to use fire extinguishers in is an important aspect of the when there are fire

incidents. Knowing and recognizing how to use a portable fire extinguisher is very important and

also the correct operation of the fire extinguishers (Schroll, 2016).

Training being an important tool in passing knowledge on how to pass information to the

employees on how to use a fire extinguisher is important. Employees must have knowledge on

how to responds to fires before trying to control them with a portable extinguisher as there is

need of activation and enabling the workers to evacuate the building t a safer place and

m

assistance be called. The monitoring team should make sure that this training be taken seriously

co

and accordingly by the employees making sure that the attendance of the employees is

o.
rs e
maximum. This would help in educating the employees enabling them to defend themselves in
ou urc
cases when there is fire outbreak and there is no one around to help them (Shabot, 2016)..
o
aC s

Motivating the employees in being educated about the use of fire extinguishers is also an
vi y re

important tool. If a fire starts, it can be small enough to be put down quickly when you have right

portable fire extinguisher and if you have knowledge on how to properly use it as just having the
ed d

fire extinguishers in a building would not be able to put down the fires and or improve its safety

unless someone is properly trained to use them. Hence motivating them on using the fire
is

extinguishers would be important as they would go through appropriate training designed for the
Th

building they are (Chassin, 2016).

sh

Assessing the employees on the basic knowledge of using fire extinguishers is also an

important tool as a proper training program should be able to cover more than the basic on how

to use the fire extinguishers. This would be able to build confidence in the employees since they

would be able to identify sources of fire within the building as well as they can be able to help in

deciding on how to deal with the fire situation if the incidence occurs. This confidence would

also be helpful to the team as the employees can make suggestion as when they are timid on their

views not knowing if the idea may be helpful or not. The training also offers a complete Fire

Extinguisher course with a live simulator to ensure that each student feels confident in using a

fire extinguisher if the need were to arise (France, 2016).

Providing enough fire extinguishers in the building and at the specified place is also a

monitoring tool that can be used and making sure the fire extinguishers are in place at all time.

m
er as
This would make it easy for the employees to locate the fire extinguishers in case there is a fire

co
eH w
in the building. Making sure also that the fire extinguishers are in right condition to be used is

o.
rs e
important. An organization may put up a team that would be responsible for all this aspects and
ou urc
in ensuring that they are safe (Inurria, 2016).
o

Another monitoring tools that may be implemented is ensuring that there are fire alarms
aC s
vi y re

and guide manual on fire on the wall edges. Employees should be asked to go through this

manuals s that they may get basic knowledge about them. This would also mean that the
ed d

employees would know that when they hear the alarm, they should evacuate the building at once
ar stu

meaning there is a fire.

is

Rules on how to use the equipment’s should be implemented. This would restrict the use
Th

of the equipment’s the unauthorized member. This would assure the right usage and operation of

the equipment’s making sure that their usage is sufficient and in right use. This would also help
sh

in avoiding the false alarms that may occur making the employees confused in the situation. This

rules would also state the rightful people who are responsible for this equipment’s (Suresh,

2017).
