Gibson method measures a static pressure

difference between two cross sections of a

penstock due to impulse changes caused
by rapid closure of the turbine guide
vanes. Flow is obtained by integrating,
within a period of about 4 to 10 s. When
this method is used, the closing time of
the guide vanes is greater than the time
required by penstock crossing the shock
wave.
