DESIGN PROJECT 1

You will be given the next 4 weeks to apply the knowledge and skills that you have been taught in the
first and second term into a domestic interior space. Through this process you will learn how to create
and produce a 3 dimensional concept design by interpreting what the client requires within the
boundaries of the brief.

AIMS AND OUTCOMES

The student is required to:

 Apply the creative process to the practical solution of two and three dimensional design
problems, primarily within the built environment.
 Analyse the specified brief or problem and come up with a workable solution, by applying the
knowledge and skill that they have acquired during the first two terms of the year.
 Produce presentation drawings to communicate their design intention.

The objective of the project:

 Encourage student to think critically within a limited/ restricted client brief and requirements
 Create awareness amongst students of a community’s special requirements both in a
physiological and psychological aspect.

Your client is Zola Mda a young creative art director from Johannesburg, Zola has recently relocated to
Durban due to the nature of her work. As a creative director Zola is responsible for the visual style and
images in magazines, newspapers, product packaging, and movie and television productions (2017). Her
company creates the overall design and directs others who develop artwork or layouts. She hires and
supervises staff of assistant art directors or set designs for different companies.

Zola still travels back home to Johannesburg during holidays and most weekends as her family is based
there. During those times away Zola rents out her apartment by advertising on the Airbnb website. Zola

advertising webpage for her apartment. The logo is to be titled “HOME AWAY FROM HOME”
