Introduction to sounds
Guidelines :
l, h ,y
1. The following slides will have pictures which your child has to name. You can choose
objects/pictures that have the beginning sound l y and h around your home too.

2. Ask your child to name the pictures/objects.


3. Once your child name the objects/pictures, ask him/her to say the Beginning sound of that object.

4. For example; When you look at the picture of a ‘lion’ (when you say lion, kindly stress on ‘/ l /’

‘lug’) and ask your child “What is this?” After that ask “What is the beginning sound of this?”

(your child should say the sound for the letter ‘ l ‘)


5. Repeat step #3 for another object and try to ask your child to name that object as well as give its
beginning sound..

Encourage your child to name each picture and identify their beginning sound. Then your child can be asked
to circle only those pictures that have the beginning sound ‘ l.

Materials needed: Activity 4: Tracing the letters
● A small size tray or plate
● Rava or sand
Steps to follow:
1. Fill the tray with enough rava/sand to cover its surface.

2. Invite your child by asking would you like to trace the letter ‘ l ‘

3. Once your child is ready, make him sit next to you.

4. Demonstrate by tracing small cursive letter ‘ ‘l, ‘one at a time in the tray filled with rava/sand as shown

in the video below. As you trace the letter, say the sound of the letter aloud.
5. Use two fingers (index and tall finger) of your dominant hand to trace the letter.
6. Shake the tray gently to erase the tracing.
7. Continue for as long as she/he or they want to.
