Source terminal can be used in either input or output connection

Drain terminal is used in output connection only

Gate terminal is used in input connection only
Body terminal cannot be used in either input or output connection

For N channel Enhancement Type MOSFET :

Threshold Voltage ------ +ve (VGS)

VGS must be positive (i.e., VGS > 0)

Drain terminal must be at higher potential as compare to source terminal (VDS > 0)

Electric Field due to VGS = Vertical Field is/ are responsible for mobility degradation in MOSFET.

Id =? First identify the mode of operation of MOSFET=?

VGS= VG – VS = 2 – 0 = 2V, VGS > Vth
VDS= VD – VS = 5 – 0 = 5V & VDS > (VGS – Vth)

⸫ Transistor is in saturation region (use formula of drain current for saturation region)
Small Signal Model
For small signal model, dc voltage source becomes short circuited, and dc current source becomes open
circuited
The output impedance of given circuit is_________ (Ignore body effect and Channel length modulation)
Solution:
2. Output impedance calculation
1. The output impedance of given small signal model is

Solution
For calculation of output impedance: Short circuit the input voltage source (⸫ V1 = 0 & gmV1 becomes open
circuited)

Rout = ∞

 The output impedance of given small signal model is

S
Solution:
Use Thevenin’s equivalent theorem (Since circuit contains only dependent source): Connect Voltage Source Vx
(it generates the current Ix) at output node

 The output impedance of given small signal model is

Solution:

For calculation of output impedance: Short circuit the input voltage source (⸫ V1 = 0 & gmV1=0 , it means gmV1
becomes open circuited)
