Governance is…
– Process of decision-making & the process by which decisions are implemented (Sheng,
U.N.E.S.C.A.P.)
– A government’s ability to make & enforce rules & to deliver services, regardless democratic or
not (Fukuyama, 2013)
– From Indian history- includes emphasizing justice, ethics, & anti-autocratic tendencies
– The manner in which public officials and institutions acquire & exercise the authority to shape
public policy & provide public goods & services (WB, 2007)
So Therefore…
• Is concerned with making or creating laws/ decisions, policies and its implementation … for public
policy, provides public goods and services
• Public officials or government officials have the role to think and do something for everybody
• These actions would lead to development/Concern not at the moment but for the future
Not to be influenced by the FEW, values & preference/ should go against the particular interest/
viewed as necessary to protect national interest (Hyden et al 2003)
• Political Will (when politicians will push or do what they believe is right despite of disagreements w/
other sectors)
