Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

The Praxis Core Exam is a key component in the steps required to become a certified

teacher in the state of Nevada. All students who are pursuing a degree in Education must take the

Praxis Core Exams before being accepted into a bachelors level Education program at UNLV,

NSC, or UNR. To pass the Praxis Core Exams, the following minimum scores are required:

Reading 156, Writing 162, and Math 150.

Exam Preparation

Before taking the Praxis Core Exam practice tests, I prepared in several ways. To begin, I

completed the Praxis practice module as assigned last semester by my EDU class which focused

on Special Education. This helped give me an idea of what types of questions would be asked on

the exam as well as the formatting of the exam. This module allowed me to take each practice

test twice. Furthermore, I read through the ETS Preparation materials and worked on some

practice problems. The ETS Preparation tool is particularly useful as it gives an in depth look at

the test, and provides questions from the test.

Exam Results

I received the following scores on the Praxis Core Exam practice tests. For the reading

portion, I scored 32% indicating that I need significant improvement in order to pass. In the

writing section, I scored a 25% which also means that I need significant improvement. Lastly, I

scored a 20% on the math section, which again indicates that my grade needs to significantly

improve in order to pass.

Future Exam Preparation

Overall, it is evident that in order to pass the Praxis Core Exam tests, there is a good

amount of work to put in. While this prospect is intimidating at first, I am not one to shy away

from a challenge and am confident that I can overcome this obstacle on my journey towards

becoming a Special Education teacher. While I do well in school when it comes to critical

thinking assignments and shorter quizzes, I struggle with standardized testing. Having dyslexia

and ADHD makes it more difficult for me to perform well on lengthy standardized tests. In order

to overcome this, I believe it will be beneficial to enlist the help of a tutor and gain one-on-one

instruction. This will really help me zero in on what I need to improve upon as well as develop a

game plan for success. Moreover, upon the recommendation of Professor Wyckoff, I will also be

seeking accommodation when officially taking the Praxis Core Exam.
