TOPIC/TITLE KEEPING ONESELF WELL – GROOMED AND
ATTRACTIVE
QUARTER THIRD QUARTER
WEEK/S Weeks 1
November 29- December 2, 2021

INTRODUCTION:
How do you take care of yourself? How does taking care of oneself affect one’s thoughts and feeling?
This lesson is about you and how to take care of yourself. How to take care of yourself means keeping yourself well-
groomed and attractive. This is important if you want to feel confident and be admired and accepted by others.

II. OBJECTIVES:
The following are the learning objectives that we have for this lesson. At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:

a. Perform grooming on one’s self


b. Practice different grooming customs
c. Enumerate and use different tools used for grooming
d. Apply schedule for grooming

III.DICUSSION/SELF-CHECK:
Good grooming means being net, clean and properly dressed. It also means being healthy. A healthy person has an
active body, good posture, a clean and pleasant looking face, clear, smooth skin, sparkling eyes and has a happy disposition.
Here are some good grooming practices.
1. Taking a bath – bathing ensures a clean body. There are three types of bathing: the full bath, the shower, and the sponge
bath.
 The full bath – a type of bath is thorough, which includes the whole body from the head to the toe.
 Shower – a type of bath that is quick and brief one soaps and rinse the body with the hair excluded.
 Sponge bath – a type of bath that is given to someone who is ill and does not have the capacity to bathe
himself/herself.
2. Caring for the teeth and gums – A good looking person usually has a good set of clean teeth.
3. Caring for the hair - your hair is your “crowning glory”. It can make your face look attractive and pretty when properly cut and
arranged.
4. Eating the Right Kind of Food – eating the right of food promotes good health and builds strong bodies.
5. Getting Sufficient Rest and Sleep – our body needs rest and sleep. This is the time for the body to repair worn-out tissues and
to recover lost energy.
6. Doing Daily Exercise - exercise is necessary for proper elimination of waste and helps stimulate circulation of the blood.
7. Eliminating Waste Regularly - to maintain good health, form the regular habit of eliminating waste daily.
8. Having Correct Body Posture - posture is the position of the body in walking, sitting, standing and lying down. Good posture
contributes to your looks.

Remember:

 Good grooming means being neat, being healthy and being properly dressed
 Good grooming starts with personal cleanliness and good habits.
 Good grooming is important because it improves one’s personal appearance.

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson you are expected to:
a. Plan a schedule for the day
b. Follow the schedule according to grooming and presenting one’s self
c. Follow the schedule according to one’s household tasks

Discussion:
Words for study:
1. Household Task – activities or work that involves maintaining the cleanliness of the house, helping prepare food in the kitchen,
gardening the lawn, or helping the parents with simple home repair work.
2. Planning – the act of arranging activities in an orderly manner
3 Schedule- a set of activities that are planned ahead and indicates the hour and minute of each activity.

Plannining a schedule is important to know how spend your time and energy properly. Planning is thinking ahead of
what activities to do for the day, when to do each activity, and how long to do each activity.

Importance of Schedule
1. It helps organize your activities for the day.
2. It keeps you from worrying that you may not be able to accoplish your plans for the day.
3. It gives you a feeling of satisfaction.
4. It gives direction on what your goals are for the day.
5. It gives a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction at the end of the day.

Making a Schedule
In working a personal schedule, you can have three colums namely: time, activities, and remarks.

Guides in Assigning Household Task to Family Member


1. Distribution of work should be based on age,sex and state health of each member.
2. Assignment of tasks should consider the tme available for each member.
3. Interest and skill of members in doing some household chores should be considered.
4. Making a schedule of work.
5. The mother should give guidance and supervision to young members of the family when doing their work.
6. Make use of devices that can save time and energy.

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson you are expected to:
a. Know how to take care of one’s clothes
b. Enumerate various approaches in cleaning, repairing, and altering one’s clothes
c. Describe the use of different tools for taking care of clothes.

Discussion:
Words for Study:
1. Laundering – the process of washing clothes through soaping and rinsing by th use of hands or machine.
2. Darning – repair of tears in clothes through sewing in a diagonal, straight, and three- cornered direction.
3. Patching – repair of holes in clothes by sewing a small cut of the same color anf fabric.

Part of a good grooming habit is taking care of clothes and personal belongings. Wearing clean, neat, and becoming
clothes improve your appearance. It speaks a lot about you.
To take care of clothes you must:
1. Launder them properly.
2. Remove spots and stains immediately as you see them.
3. Repair the worn out parts of your clothes such as holes, tears, rips, and the like.
4. Fold or hang them carefully before putting them in clothes drawer or cabinet or in a hamper if they are dirty.
5. Wear them properly and take them off carefully.

Laundering – the process of washing clothes through soaping and rinsing by th use of hands or machine.

Steps to in Laundering
1. Sorting – get all clothes ready for washing.Separate the white from the colored clothes.
2. Soaking – soak the clothes in water mixed with some detergent to loosen the dirt.
3. Soaping – When washing clothes the usual way, that is rubbing them by hand in soapsuds, rub more soap on the more soiled
parts like the collar, neckline, sleeves, and hems of garments.
4. Rinsing – Rinse clothes in water to remove soap and dirt.

Repairing Worn Out Parts of Clothes


Darning and Mending
Holes in a garment may be mended by patching, while tears may be mended by darning. Tears in clothing are
commonly straight, diagonal, and three- cornered.Regardless of the shape of the tears, darns will hardly br noticeable if threads
in darning, match in color with the cloth.

Steps in Darning
1. Trim the tear by cutting off raveling threads
2. Prepare the needle and thread.
3. Starting at the wrong side, push the needle 14 centimeter from the beginning of tear.
4. Move the needle in and out fabric.
5. Continue making running stitches.
6. Finish the wrong side of the garment.

Patching – when holes in a garment are large,patching is used for mending. The patch must match the color, design, and fabric
of the garment.

Steps in patching a hole


1. Trim the hole to a regular shape.
2. Cut a patch large enough to cover the holes on all sides.
3. Turn the raw edges of the patch ¼ inch to the right side.
4. Hem the patch to the garment making the corners neat.
5. Turn in the raw edges of the garment and baste near the edge.
6. Remove the bastings and press carefully.

Shortening/Lengthening a Hemline – lengthening or shortening your skirt is not very difficult to do. One can do this simply
lengthening or shortening the hemline.

Steps in Shortening Hemline


1. Measure the correct skirt length you desire and mark it on the hemline of the garment you wish to shorten. Use a tailor’s chalk
for marking the length.
2. Lay the garment on the table and mark the hemline by pins.
3. Baste the hem and finish off with hand stitching.

I. INTRODUCTION:
What come to your mind when you read the word “home”? What does home mean to you? How do you make your
home a happy place to live?
This lesson is about taking care of the home. It aims to make you aware of the importance of the home as a place of
rest and bonding with your family. It also expounds on how you can make your home an ideal place to live in.

II. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
a. Indicate the proper instruments for cleaning the home
b. Demonstrate the proper ways of cleaning the home

III. DISCUSSIONS/SELFCHECK:
Keeping the house clean and beautiful is not pleasing to the eye but is good for the health and brings comfort to those
who live in it. When a home is clean and beautiful, every member looks forward to coming home because being at home makes
you feel relaxed, secured, and happy. As the saying goes,” there is no place like home!”

Three Reasons in Taking Care of the House


1. To keep it clean and tidy – this means that the house should be free clutter and dirt.
2. To keep it safe – the house should be built of strong materials and located in a safe loacation.
3. To make the house last longer – the house is not only built of strong and durable materials but regular maintenance is made.

Activities in Taking Care of the House


1. Clean the house bysweeping, scrubbing, dusting and wiping.
2. Arrange furniture and furnishing in an orderly and creative manner.
3. Tend the gardenby sweaping, watering, mulching, weeding,pruning, removing dried leaves and controlling pests and diseases.
4. Do simple home repairs.

Here are the tools needed in keeping the house clean for sweeping floors, ceilings and walls.

Always remember the health and safety practices in cleaning the house
1. Wear appropriate clothes before starting to work.
2. Prepare all tools and materials needed before starting.
3. Move all furniture and other equipment to the side to avoid obstructions when cleaning.
4. Inspect all tools to be used.
5. Schedule an appropriate time for cleaning.
6. Plan your cleaning activities in sequence.
7. Use the right tool for the right job.
8. Think of cleaning as fun and not as work.

A beautiful house is a well- cared house. It is clean, neat, orderly, and aesthetically pleasing to look at and to live in. To
keep the house beautiful you must:
a. Keep the inside and outside surroundings clean.
b. Keep it neat.
c. Keep it orderly.
d. Keep the furnishings in harmony with the house.
e. Keep the furniture to the minumum.
f. Put a touch of cheer and freshness in every room.

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
a. Indicate the proper instruments for the yard.
b. Demonstrate the proper ways of cleaning the yard.

Discussion:
The yard is the ground surrounding the house. It is an extension of the house. Many families are realizing the
importance of a yard as an area outdoor living.

Uses of the Yard


1. A vegestable garden
2. A flower garden
3. A service area
4. A play area
5. An Animal raising area

Other families can divide their home ground into:


1. Pathwalk – this is a narrow pathway where family members going to the house and from different areas of the yard.
2.The Front Yard - this is athe space in front of the house. It provides the first impression that visitors have about personality of
the house and the people who live in it.
3. The Backyard – the backyard can serve many purposes depending on the need and desire of the family. It can be a vegetale
garden, a small poultry house or a service area for laundering or a combination of these.
4.The service area – this area is often located at one side in backyard area. It is near the kitchen exit door to the backyard.
5. Terrace – this is an open the space with concrete flooring usually found either beside the front yard or at the side of the house.
It is usually considered as extension of the house structure.

There are different tools and equipment in cleaning and beautifying the yard.
1. Bolo – a long heavy knife used for cutting branches of trees and plants.
2. Hoe – a thin blade positioned across the end of a long handle. It is used for digging and loosening the soil.
3. Broomstick and dustpan – used to sweep leaves and dirt in the pathwalk and other areas of the yard.
4. Water sprinkled or hose – used to water plants.
5. Shovel –used to dig soil, lift and throw materials from the ground.
6. Trash can – used to contain gathered trash.
7. Wheel barrow- used to carry garden soil, tools, and materials in gardening.

Health and safety Practices in Caring for the yard


1. Prepare all needed tools, equipment, and materials before starting to work.
2. Put on your working clothes, wear gloves and hat on hot weather for your protection.
3. Use the right tool for the right job to assure quality work.
4. Hold tools properly and firmly.
5. In burning leaves, do not leave live ember.
6. Wash tools carefully after use. Put them back properly where you got them.
7. Always have a trash can to dispose your garbage.
8. Wash your hands and change your clothes after working.
