Step By Step Process of Giving GSTR 3B

Introductions
GSTR 3B is one of the most important returns to be filed by GST registered taxpayers. This
return is a declaration about the aggregate outward supplies and total Input tax credit received
and availed. A taxpayer is required to report accurate figures of the outward liability and
input tax credit claimed in a particular month. In this article, we will discuss the complete
process of how to file or submit a GSTR-3B return. This is a completely online process.

Step-1:

Go to the GST.GOV.IN. This is the government portal where every taxpayer is required to
file their GST returns. All the procedures of filing GST returns, GST refunds, GST payments
and every other process in respect of GST must be done on this government portal. However,
a taxpayer can file their returns through GST software also. The Government has provided an
API to software development companies to develop and run GST software to enable and help
taxpayers to file GST returns in a much easier way.

Step-2:

Enter the login credentials on GST common portal. On visiting the government official
website i.e. gst.gov.in, one needs to enter their login id and password to enter into their
dashboard.

Step-3:

After successful login into an account, click on the return dashboard tab. Select the year,
quarter and month for which you want to file the GSTR-3b. After selecting the period, click
on the GSTR-3B tab. On clicking this tab, GSTR 3B will be opened.

Step-4:
Feed the details as asked in the GSTR-3B returns.

The Table-3.1 of the returns consist of the details of outward taxable supplies where you need
to fill in the details of aggregate sales made and tax collected on sales during the selected
month. Out of the total sales declared in table 3.1(a), how much of sales were made to
unregistered persons, composition taxable person and UIN holders shall be declared in table
3.2. The amount of total Input tax credit availed during the selected month shall be declared
in table-4. All the exempt,00 and nil rated inward supplies shall be declared in table-5. Table-
6 is for declaration of any interest on late payment of tax and any late fees for delay in filing
of GST return.

Step-5:

On feeding, all of the above information, click on the SAVE tab. On clicking the save button,
the information will be saved on the GST portal. On successfully saving the information click
on the PROCEED FOR PAYMENT tab. Here, you will be asked to set off the outward tax
liability against your ITC claimed. If the ITC claimed is not sufficient to set off the liability,
you will be required to make payment of additional cash required to set off the outward tax
liability. Now, click on the MAKE PAYMENT/POST CREDIT TO LEDGER tab. This will
set off your outward tax liability against ITC or cash balance in your electronic cash ledger.

Step-6:

On successfully offsetting liability click on PROCEED TO FILE tab. Now, select the
authorized signatory and click on the File with EVC tab if you wish to file GSTR 3B with the
help of OTP or click on File with DSC if you wish to file a return with the help of a digital
signature. That’s it. A successful message will be displayed on your screen as an
acknowledgement for filing GSTR-3B.
