The Crawleys and their loyal servants return in
Downton Abbey: A New Era, due out in March
2022. “I’m interested in change,” creator and

2019 movie, which arrived about four years after
the beloved British historical drama series ended.
Fellowes is tight-lipped about the plot twists that
will befall the aristocratic household in the late-
1920s, but he says there’s an overarching theme:

SEXIEST MAN ALIVE 2021

Paul Rudd is having a hard time acknowl-

before how he’s not the stereotypical
Hollywood leading man—he’s kind,
self-deprecating, affable, hardworking,
all labels he’s embraced to some degree.
But sexy? That’s a little outside his wheel-

to know that when people hear that I’d be

Such humble deflection—coupled

When he’s not dominating the big screen in
films like this summer’s Stillwater and The
Last Duel (opposite his pal and cowriter Ben

other dads. “My dancing tends to get shut
down pretty quickly by my kids,” he says.
“I haven’t made it through a song in quite
some time, because they’re so mortified.”

j a s o n MOMOA
From ruling the sea in DC’s Aquaman to fighting supersoldiers
as sword master Duncan Idaho in Dune, the actor, 42, has had his share
of on-set injuries. “I have a hernia, I’ve got ribs out. I’m just getting
beat up! . . . I’m an aging superhero right now,” Momoa said
in October. Fortunately the body blows haven’t dampened his
enthusiasm: “I just kind of give it [my all]. I love my job.”

Though the American Idol judge, 45,
“appreciates how I look at my proper age,” he
admits the gray hair has started creeping in.
“I’m lucky to not have crazy tons of it, but I’ll

that most ladies like a little salt and pepper.
Nobody defined it better than Clooney.
Maybe I can morph into that look.”

timothée CHALAMET
The Dune star doesn’t shy away from displaying his
emotions. “I feel like I’m here to show that to
wear your heart on your sleeve is okay,” he’s said.
The actor, 25, also solidified his position as a style
icon when he cochaired the 2021 Met Gala.
“I just love all of that,” he says of dressing up, adding
that he doesn’t worry about the critics: “You’re doing
it for a kid that’s going to be inspired.”

stays true to himself. “The only

If the recently single actor, 29, didn’t end up on Outer Banks, he could
have been selling houses. “I’m actually a secret HGTV lover and
want to flip homes,” says Stokes. The Netflix star calls his life “one hell of

Rod Stewart is pretty much an open book. During

the thought of losing his signature spiky blond

Stewart, 76, is set to reprise his acclaimed Las Ve-

was a royal herself, she struggled to
cope with the hectic routine of dinners,
small talk and wardrobe changes as her
marriage to Prince Charles started to
fracture. “It was purgatory for her,” says
her bodyguard Ken Wharfe, who joined
the Princess of Wales for the holidays at
Sandringham in the early 1990s. “She
confined herself to spending time in the
kitchen with the chef or with people like
me, in the hope that time would while
away and she could get back to London.”
Now the new film Spencer, directed
by Pablo Larraín and starring Kristen
Stewart as a 30-year-old Diana, exam-

Christmas at Sandringham in 1991.

Gilbert Tuhabonye about
the scars that cover his

across his back: “What
happened to you?” they
wonder, looking at the
rough patches visible
beneath his runner’s
tank. The marks are the
vestiges of genocide—a
truth too awful for a child
to comprehend, so Tuhabonye simply
says they are African tattoos. “And
they are like tattoos,” Tuhabonye says.
“They are symbols that I went through
horror, but what I learned from that is
powerful. When I see the scars, I think
how blessed I am to be alive.”
As a high school student and
cross-country champion in the East
African nation of Burundi in 1993,
Tuhabonye saw the worst of human-
ity when his Hutu teammates turned
against him and other members of
the minority Tutsi tribe in a murder-
ous rage following the execution of
the country’s Hutu president by Tutsi
extremists. The violence left scores of
his classmates dead and him with inju-
ries so severe that doctors said he’d
never run again. But 28 years later, as
the coach of one of the largest running
groups in Austin, Texas, and the found-
er of a charity bringing clean water to
more than 115,000 people in Burundi—
Tutsis and Hutus alike—Tuhabonye,
now 46, has embraced hope and for-
giveness over anger and vengeance.
“I believe God gave me another chance
to live,” he says. “That’s why I’m ded-
icated to making a difference and
preaching peace.”
Growing up in rural Burundi, Tuha-
bonye says his family lived in peace
with those from other tribes: “We
treated each other with respect.” And
on their farm, where his parents raised
goats and chickens and grew corn,
peas and sorghum, running wasn’t a
pastime, it was a way of life. “I ran six
miles to school, I ran to the market, I
ran to fetch water,” he says. “Whenever
my mom or grandma needed anything,
they’d rely on me. I was fast.”
In seventh grade he left for boarding school,
located seven hours from home, and discovered
his speed was good for more than daily chores. In
his first year at Kibimba High School he entered a
cross-country race competing against seniors and
won. “Kid,” his coach told him,“you could be really
good, not just here but all over the globe.” Recalls
Tuhabonye: “He inspired me to believe in myself.”
By his senior year in 1993, he had dreams of earn-
ing a scholarship to an American university.
All that changed on Oct. 21. Tensions between
the country’s two main tribes had already been
simmering, but they boiled over after the killing
of the Hutu president. Tuhabonye was up at dawn
that day to study for exams when he saw a group
marching toward the school and noticed a for-
mer teammate holding a huge knife.“Tonight I’m TEAMMATES

By 1995 he was competing again and had hopes

Monica and Josh had gone from the

fear for his life: “They weren’t sure

Soon after the flight crew brought

potentially deadly disorder weakening
the body’s ability to form blood clots.
“It was such a whirlwind of emotions

Last game I played

I have a pool table in my house, and
I’m obsessed. I play probably three
or four times a week; it depends on
how much I’m working or drinking
at the time. I’m pretty good.
Last wardrobe malfunction
One year at the Met Ball I was at a
table with a beautiful young tennis
player and a young actress. I’m
talking to them, saying welcome,
and they look like I’m scaring
them. I look down, and literally my
[nipple] is in their faces. I was like,
“Okay, sorry, I’ll put that away now.”
Last indulgence
I’m a real midnight snacker. I’m
not huge on breakfast, and I love
eating after 3 p.m. Last night I’d
had dinner, and then I had like
three handfuls of Good & Plenty
candy. It was hard to stop.
Last injury
I bit a fork recently and chipped a
tooth. It was in the front, and
I looked, honestly, incredibly janky.
I almost had to be unfaithful
to my dentist, like, “If you can’t
take me today, I have to go to
someone else.”
Last moment of bliss
Every single time I open my eyes
and see my sweet little pup looking
up at me, waiting for me to wake
up so she can have breakfast. And
she’s hypoglycemic. So if I don’t
LAUREN DUKOFF

get my ass out of bed, she’ll have a

little throw-up. It’s like, “Okay, girl,
let’s go. We’re up and at ’em.”
