1. Compare the fault currents for the unsymmetrical faults in a power system.

11. (a) Solve the node voltages V1 and v2 in the network shown in fig. the voltages and
impedances are in p.u.

(or)
(b) A 120 MVA, 19.5 KV generator has a synchronous reactance of 0.15 pu and it is
connected to a transmission line through a transformer rated 150 MVA, 230/18 KV (Υ/∆)
with X=0.1pu.
a) Calculate the p.u reactances by taking generator rating as base values.
b) Calculate the p.u reactance by taking transformer rating as base values.
c) Calculate the p.u reactances for a base value of 100 MVA and 220 KV on HT side
of transformer.
12. (a) Derive load flow algorithm using Newton-Raphsons method with flow chart and
discuss the advantages of the method.
(or)
(b) The system data for a load flow solution are given in table. Determine the voltages at
the end of first iteration by Gauss-Seidel method. With α =1.6

13. (a) A synchronous generator and a synchronous motor each rated 25MVA,11KV having
15% subtransient reactance are connected through transformers and a line as shown in
Fig. The transformers are rated 25MVA, 11/66 KV and 66/11 KV with leakage reactance
of 10% each. The line has a reactance of 10% on a base of 25MVA, 66 KV. The motor is
drawing 15MW at 0.8pf leading and a terminal voltage at 10.6 KV when a symmetrical
three phase fault occurs at the motor terminals. Find the subtransient current in generator,
motor and fault.

(or)
(b) For the two bus system as shown in Fig. Determine the fault current at the fault point
and in other element for a bolted three phase fault at bus 4 with a fault impedance
Zf=j0.15p.u
Generator X=15%, Transmission line X=30%, Transformer X=20%

14. (a) Derive the expression for the fault current when line-line occurs at the terminals of an
unloaded generator.

(b) Derive the expression for the fault current when singleline-ground occurs at the
terminals of an unloaded generator.
15. (a) (i)Explain the methods to improve transient stability.(6)
(ii)State and explain ‘equal area criterion’. (10)
(or)
(b)With the help of detailed flowchart and algorithm, explain how a symmetrical fault
can be analysed using Zbus.
