The student drew a genetically modified organism (GMO) called "Berry Happy," which is a large, brightly colored blueberry with doubled vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. This GMO grows faster, survives harsh weather, and is pest- and herbicide-resistant. It could help alleviate anxiety and support farmers impacted by drought. However, concerns exist that it could increase allergies and toxicity. The GMO may also encourage greater pesticide use and could potentially spread engineered genes to wild populations.

1. What is your GMO, its modified characteristic and features?
The above GMO will be called “Berry Happy.” It is a bright multi-colored blueberry that has the size of large guava. With such a considerable size, the vitamins, minerals, and amino acids in this GMO are also doubled, allowing someone who is suffering from anxiety to reduce the severity of their symptoms with only one slice of this fruit or just a whole piece of it. Aside from its unique color and size, this GMO can grow faster, survive harsh weather, fight pests, and is herbicide-resistant. 2. In what do you think this GMO can positively impact society? The ongoing pandemic has caused many people to suffer not just in their respiratory systems, but also in their mental health. COVID-19 took a toll on everyone's mental health as we were locked in the four corners of our rooms dealing with our silent battles while taking online classes that severely strained and burned out both students and teachers for nearly three years. This GMO may be able to alleviate such people's anxiety. Blueberries are high in vitamin C and other antioxidants, such as flavonoids, which have been examined for their capacity to boost mental wellness and, as a result, aid with anxiety relief. Furthermore, this GMO might assist farmers who have been affected by droughts throughout the summer season of the year. The benefits of this GMO might also include increased nutritional content in crops, protection for plants from increasing and unexpectedly dropping temperatures, and better- tasting fruit for end customers. Moreover, it may be beneficial to those who are experiencing financial issues and could not afford expensive medications and therapies. It might also be of great help to individuals who are struggling to take drugs that are terrifying to take in. Since their appearance is altered, individuals who consume it will find it very attractive and tasty and will not think about why they are eating it. 3. What ethical issues or concerns may arise as a result of this GMO? One of the issues that might develop from this GMO is the increase in the rate of food allergy in people, as well as the sudden rise in toxicity. Because the future of GMOs may be able to tolerate harsh temperatures, use less water and sunlight, and grow and harvest faster, the expectations of consumers, particularly the elderly to GMOs, may be harmful, resulting in an ineffective supply of nutrients. Furthermore, potential consumer concerns with GMO crops include the following: 1) Because of the toxins present in these genetically modified crops, it has the potential to induce cancer and tumors. 2) The use of a massive amount of pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides in these crops may fail the systematic distribution of crops to end consumers. 3) While herbicide-resistant crops can reduce mechanical tillage and thus soil erosion, engineered genes from GMOs can conceivably access wild populations, genetically engineered crops may encourage increased use of agricultural chemicals, and there are worries that GMOs may end up causing inadvertent biodiversity losses; and 4) Human Health Issues.
