NOTE : Following this test the control returns to its normal mode ready
____
for engine operation.
(a)On maintenance Panel 472VU:
(Ref. Fig. 501)
1 Place FADEC ENG1/ENG2 switch in ENG1(2) position
_
2 Place FADEC/BITE DISPLAY/TEST/OFF switch in TEST position
_
3 Wait 30 seconds
_
4 FADEC parametric data are displayed on the right ECAM display
_
unit.
- FADEC status words (Labels 270 thru 274) and FADEC maintenance words
(Labels 350 thru 354) are displayed on the left ECAM display unit
with their corresponding hexadecimal values for both channel A and
channel B of the preselected ENG/FADEC.
- This display shows the present condition of the FADEC system.
(b)Convert hexadecimal display to binary form using table 501.
1 For maintenance words (Labels 350 to 354)
_
- Identify the bits which are set to 1 and therefore significant.
Ref. TSM 73-21-40 to perform corrective action for fault.
- All the other bits remaining at O are not significant.
2 For status words (Labels 270 to 274)
_
- Refer to table 502 for identification of normal bits condition.
- Check especially the correct engine rating configuration through
the 21 to 24 bit pattern of label 271.

**ON A/C 001-021, 050-050,

CAUTION : VERIFY THAT ANNUNCIATOR CIRCUIT (LABEL BIT 272-29)

_______
IS OPERATIONAL.
- Verify that annunciator circuit is operational (Label/Bit 272-29 is
set = 1). If 272-29 is set = 0, perform corrective action for fault
(Ref. TSM 73-21-40).

**ON A/C ALL

(2)Procedure for FADEC BITE Display

CAUTION : PRIOR TO PLACING FADEC BITE DISPLAY/TEST/OFF SWITCH IN BITE
_______
DISPLAY POSITION, VERIFY THAT LABEL/BIT 350-26 IS NOT SET = 1
IN EITHER CHANNEL OF BOTH FADECS (FADEC UNDER TEST ONLY, IF
OTHER FADEC IS NOT POWERED). IF 350-26 IS SET = 1 IN ANY
CHANNEL, PERFORM CORRECTIVE ACTION FOR THAT FAULT (SEE TSM
73-21-40 BEFORE PERFORMING BITE TEST).
FAILURE TO DO THIS MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF FADEC STORED FAULT
INFORMATION.
(a)Place the FADEC ENG1/ENG2 switch in ENG1 (2) position.
(b)Place the FADEC BITE DISPLAY/TEST/OFF switch in the TEST position.
(c)Verify that Label-bit 350-26 (Data entry plug not installed) is 0 in
both channels of the FADEC.
If 350-26 is set = 1 in either channel, perform corrective action for
that fault before performing BITE-Test (Ref. TSM 73-21-40).
NOTE : FADEC BITE display is not possible for five minutes following
____
shutdown of the engine.
This lock-out of the FADEC BITE display can be defeated by
cycling the HP fuel shut off valve control lever for the desired
engine.
This action will momentarily de-power the FADEC, causing the
lockout to be released.
(d)Move the FADEC BITE DISPLAY/TEST/OFF switch to the BITE DISPLAY
position and then back to the TEST position. The left ECAM will display
the most recent faults.
(e)Review the data displayed on ECAM and do the following:
1 If there are no retrievable faults, all hexadecimal values for
_
maintenance words 350-354 will be 0 and the
FL will be 0. No
additional interrogation is required.
2 If there are retrievable faults, some hexadecimal values for
_
maintenance words 350-354 will be non-zero and the
FL will be some
value other than 0 (example : -1, -2, XX etc.). Record the label
(350-354) and its associated hexadecimal values.

NOTE : In the BITE Display Mode:
____
Status words on the left ECAM will be displayed as XXXX.
Parametric information on right ECAM will be displayed as
XXXX (Ref. Fig. 504).

FL -XX:
- Indicates ground faults stored during the last engine shutdown
(after fuel off).
- Indicates ground faults stored during the last ground run, if no
flight occurred since that time.
- Indicates ground faults stored during the last motor (dry or wet)
with N2 greater than 18 %, if no flight occurred since that time.

FL -1 indicates faults stored during the last flight-leg

FL -2 indicates faults stored 2 flight-legs ago

FL -3 indicates faults stored 3 flight-legs ago

FL 0 indicates there are no additional faults to review.
(f)To review previous flight legs, cycle the FADEC BITE DISPLAY/TEST/OFF
switch from the TEST position to BITE DISPLAY and then back to the TEST
position.
Each time this cycle is performed, the FADEC will step back to an older
flight leg data for maintenance words 350-354.
NOTE : FADEC channel A and FADEC channel B retrieve faults
____
independently. It is possible for faults from 2 different flight
legs to be displayed at the same time.
Example : Channel A may show
FL -1, while Channel B shows

FL -3.
NOTE : You may continue to cycle the FADEC BITE DISPLAY/TEST/OFF switch
____
until all recorded faults have been reviewed or the switch is
moved to the OFF position.
Once all of the faults have been reviewed, all hexadecimal
values for maintenance words 350-354 will be 0. In addition,
the
FL will be 0.
NOTE : After
FL 0 has been reached, continued cycling of the FADEC
____
BITE DISPLAY/TEST/OFF switch will not change the hexadecimal
values displayed.
(g)Convert the hexadecimal values recorded to binary form using the same
procedure as for ground test (Ref. Table 501).
(h)Return the FADEC test switch back to the OFF position and for faults
identification and troubleshooting instructions (Ref. TSM 73-21-40).
(j)After completing the required troubleshooting, place the FADEC test
switch back to the TEST position, wait 30 seconds (minimum) and verify
that all maintenance words (350-354) appear as zeros. This display
shows the current condition of the system.
(k)If faults appear, repeat step (b) until no faults appear.
(l)If required, perform the BITE test in alternate playback mode at this
time.
(3)Close-up

(a)De-energize the aircraft electrical network (Ref. 24-41-00,

Alternate Playback Mode : Ground Legs Only

A. Reason for the Job

To retrieve and display fault messages from EEC memory which cannot be
located by using the normal FADEC BITE DISPLAY procedure. An example of
this is a fault which occurred as a ground fault prior to the last flight
leg.
The alternate playback mode will show:
(1)Ground faults which have occurred in between flight legs.
(2)Faults which have occurred after an engine motor (dry or wet) with N2
greater than 18 %.
(3)Faults which occurred during any previous engine motors (dry or wet) with
N2 greater than 18 %.
Example : If since the last flight, 3 dry cranks (N2 > 18 %) were
performed with faults occurring in each ground run, the alternate
playback mode will show
FL -XX,
FL -1,
FL -2 as those ground
runs.

(f)Place throttle control system in position greater than 7.0 TLA

(45• TRA).
(g)Press MODE SELECTOR pushbutton switch to command N1 mode
(Ref. Fig. 505).
(2)Procedure in Alternate Playback Mode.
(a)Place the FADEC ENG1/ENG2 switch in ENG1(2) position.

050-050,

NOTE : FADEC BITE display is not possible for five minutes following
____
shutdown of the engine.
This lock-out of the FADEC BITE display can be defeated by
cycling the HP fuel shut off valve control lever for the desired
engine. This action will momentarily de-power the FADEC, causing
the lockout to be released.

050-050,

FL -1 indicates faults stored 2 ground runs ago

FL -2 indicates faults stored 3 ground runs ago

FL -3 indicates faults stored 4 ground runs ago

FL 0 indicates there are no additional faults to review.
NOTE : In alternate playback mode, faults which occurred during any
____
given flight will NOT be displayed. Alternate playback mode
gives only faults which have occurred on the ground.

(f)To review previous ground legs, cycle the FADEC BITE DISPLAY/TEST/OFF
switch from the TEST position to BITE DISPLAY and then back to the TEST
position.
Each time this cycle is performed, the FADEC will step back to older
ground leg data for maintenance words 350-354.
NOTE : FADEC channel A and FADEC channel B retrieve faults
____
independently. It is possible for faults from 2 different ground
legs to be displayed at the same time.

(k)If faults appear, repeat step (h) until no faults appear.
(3)Close-up
(a)Return throttle control levers to IDLE position.
(b)Release MODE SELECTOR pushbutton switch to return to EPR mode.

(c)De-energize the aircraft electrical network (Ref. 24-41-00,
