Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

I am transferring to UNLV after my next semester at CSN. But, as of my last discussion

with an academic counselor, you do not need to pass the Praxis Core Exam to study at UNLV. As

it was explained to me, the teacher shortage is making it easier to get into UNLV, but to become

a licensed teacher a passing score is required. In Nevada the passing scores are as follows: Math

150, Reading 156, and Writing 162.

Exam Preparation

If I am being honest, I did not study for this exam. However, I had gone over some

questions previously and understood the basic concepts of the test from previous research and

discussion with other UNLV Secondary Education majors. I understand the meaning behind the

scores and what is required to become a teacher in Nevada.

Exam Results

For the Reading portion of the exam I scored in the 70% range. This means that I am

borderline passing when I take the official Praxis Core exam. The next section was Writing, in

which I scored within the 73% range. Again, this means I am borderline passing for this subject

as well. Finally, for the Math portion I scored in the 76% range, which is once more in the

borderline passing range.

Future Exam Preparation

With this practice test I have scored in the borderline passing range for all sections without

studying or preparing as I normally would for such an important exam. I will take further

measures to ensure my passing. I will use “Praxis for Dummies”, online practice tests, and
review the material that this practice test stated I needed to improve upon. The main sections that

I know for sure that I need to study upon are the following: in reading; integration of knowledge

and ideas, and craft, structure, and language skills. In writing; text types, purpose and production.

Lastly, in math; number and quantity.
