COURSE / CODE : BUILDING SERVICES II (BQS554)

ASSIGNMENT

OBJECTIVES
• To introduce students to the basic principles, processes, and equipment of various building
services systems through real-life projects (experiential learning).
• To expose students to the integration of various building services systems in a building.
• To allow students to demonstrate their understanding of building services systems.

TASK
This task is a case study on a building with the pre-selected services topics. Each group have to choose
ONE type of local or international building of prestigious stature as a case study. From that building,
each group are required to choose ONE (1) topic and PROPOSE the system of the chosen building.

The proposed system must suitable for the current and latest technology of building services. You may
refer to the information via the INTERNET only. The outcomes of the assignment must include:

• Explanation of the application, system, installation process, benefits, problems and anything
relevant to support the documentation.
• Explanation on how each building service functions including the connections and positions
of the different parts of equipment.
• Explanation of the principles and systems as well as space implications and building
regulations related to different building services.

Each class shall consist of 6 groups that will propose each topic below.

2. Electrical supply
3. Telecommunication and networking
4. Special services installation
5. Heating, ventilating and air conditioning
6. Mechanical handling system
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENT
SUBMISSION OF REPORT AND PRESENTATION: WEEK 11, 25th JUNE 2021 (FRIDAY BEFORE 5.00 PM).
SUBMISSION WILL BE MADE via RELATED ONLINE LEARNING TOOLS.

1. Report Submission
• The report should be submitted in .pdf file. The report should be creative and attractive.
• The content of your report must include the TASK 1-3
• List of references (Proper citation and referencing are compulsory). The references
must at least base on 10 references.
• You are required to prepare the report via an online report template in CANVA online
software (https://www.canva.com).
• Please refer to the following steps for CANVA online software:
1. Click CANVA.COM
2. Sign up
3. Click “HOME’ – ‘CREATE A DESIGN” – Report/Newsletter, etc.
4. Choose TEMPLATE (make sure the template has appeared FREE)
5. Edit template in CANVA.COM
6. When the template is complete – click ‘DOWNLOAD’
7. Choose file type ‘PDF STANDARD’ and Download
8. Save your PDF file

2. Video Presentation Submission


• The presentation should be in awesome interactive ideas to drive excitement and
engagement but professional.
• The marks will be given based on the information and the creative ideas of the
presentation. The presentation will be the combination of all groups in the class. Thus,
the presentation will be only ONE for each class. Therefore, do your best to cooperate
with your classmates.

• You are required to provide 10-15 minutes of an interactive and interesting video
describing all the above-mentioned instruction using your creativity and idea.
• You are encouraged to use any application software to be included in assisting your video
presentation, such as PowToon, Sparkol, Animoto, Animaker, Biteable, Moovly, etc. or
any other software that suits your preference.
• The content of the video must be in English.
• The speech must be clear. Include subtitles (in English) if sound quality is unclear.
• List of references at the end of the video.
