Questions:

1. Based on the story that you have listened to before, what is the main theme of the story?
Provide ONE example to explain your answers. (3 marks)

Based on the story that I listened which is ‘The Selfish Giant’written by Oscar
Wilde.Every day after school, a group of local children play in the Giant’s garden. There they
enjoy fresh fruit, beautiful flowers, and sweetly singing birds.He doesn’t like the children play at
his garden because no one can play there except him. So he built a high wall all round it, and put
up a notice-board.
The main theme of this story “The Selfish Giant” by Oscar Wilde are that of the
negative consequences of selfishness and that of redemption. The selfishness of the Giant is
punished by natural elements, who refuse to let his garden flourish by spring, summer, and
autumn. By chasing away children and trying to rejoice the beauty of his garden all by himself,
the Giant attracted a perpetual winter.With his arrogance, the Giant’s garden remains trapped in
Winter.

2. What is your favourite character from the story? Provide TWO examples from the story
to elaborate on your answers. (7 marks)

Based on the story that I listened which is ‘The Selfish Giant’written by Oscar

My favourite character in this story is the Giant.Firstly,I choose him to be my
favourite character because he was a person who is aware of the mistakes he has made.For
months thereafter,the Giant is feels empty,unable to understand why Spring will not
come.Springtime only returns to the garden when the children were sneak inside to play at his
garden.Softened by the months he spent deprived of warmth and cheer. the Giant realizes that he
brought the winter upon himself with his selfishness.Then,the Giant give the children a chance to
play happily in his garden.
After that,the Giant is one person who are kindness and loving person.One day,the
Giant see the one little boy crying in the far corner of the garden.He cry because he cant climb
the tree there.The Giant raises the boy up into the tree,the child embraces the Giant,kissing
him.The giant was very old and feeble.The little boy who longtime hidden cameback to see him
but at the ather place.He then welcomes to the Giant into heaven as reward for his kindness.In
ending,the Giant was lying down on the ground and went off to sleep.The Giant ending in eternal
Paradise with the little boy.

The conclusion is the Giant teach us more lesson troughtout his character. The
Giant’s character is meant to teach this moral lesson as simply and straightforwardly as possible.
He taught us that all people in this world should have the good characteristic and personalities
the became a useful human beings.
