Time allowed: 2 hours Total Marks 50

Final term Examination, Feb, 2021

Note: Answer All questions. The questions in Section A are worth 1 mark each and
worth a total of 20 marks. Section B is worth a total of 30 marks. You are advised to
spend about half-hour on Section A and one hour and half-hour on Section B. Section A
is provided on a separate sheet.

Section B

1. (a) Consider the velocity field given by V~ = V0

l
(xî − y ĵ), where V0 and l are con-
stants. Determine the streamlines for this flow.

(b) Consider the steady, two dimensional flow field discussed in Question 1a. De-
termine the acceleration field for this flow.

2. (a) Derive the Bernoulli equation for incompressible flow in detail.

(b) Derive the equations of fluid along the streamline direction.

3. (a) Derive the streamwise and normal components of acceleration of a particle in

a steady flow of fluid.

(b) Give a physical interpretation of the celebrated Bernoulli equation in detail.
