PEER EDITOR’S CHECK LIST

1. Checking on the form/format:

√ Does the essay have three main parts: an introduction, body paragraphs and a
conclusion?

o Do you indent in the first line of each paragraph?

2. Checking on the content:

Introduction

√ Does the introduction have a hook to get the reader’s attention?

√ Does it have background information to tell the reader when to celebrate Tet
and the meaning of the holiday?

o Does the thesis statement state your favorable features of Vietnamese Tet?

Body paragraphs

o Does each body paragraph have the topic sentence to support the thesis
statement?

o Do the body paragraphs include details that describe the favorable features of
Vietnamese Tet?

o Do they touch the senses of the reader (seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting)?

o Do the body paragraphs need more details supported? If yes, what paragraph?

o Does the essay have similes to make the writing more descriptive?

o Does each body paragraph have a concluding sentence?

o Does the essay include any irrelevant ideas?

Conclusion

o Does the conclusion restate the controlling idea of the essay?

o Does it have a summary of the main ideas stated in the body paragraphs?
o Does it include the final thought of the writer?

My comment: There are some items that I do not know if I should tick or not. However,
I could say the format of this essay is not appropriate. Mr. Thai does have the
introduction, but there is only one body paragraph which is written like a paragraph;
however, we are writing an essay, right?
