1986 Chernobyl Disaster

Hydrosphere:
Radioactive cloud percipitated onto parts of the USSR and Western Europe.. Rivers and lakes
surrounding the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone are highly contaminated with radionuclides.

Atmosphere:
Exposed nuclear reactor core releases radioactive materials into the atmosphere. A Radioactive
cloud forms and travels across Europe.

Lithosphere:
Radioactive fuel melts through Reactor floor and mixes with reactor structural material;
forming Corium and Chernobylite. Nuclear fuel threatens to contaminate subterranean ground water
and cause potential steam explosion.

Biosphere:
First responders recieve lethal amounds of radiation and some die from Acute Radiation
Sickness the following months. Several Liquidators suffer radiation-induced cancer in the following
years. Entire population of Pripyat displaced. 6000 children allegedly develop thyroid cancer. 10 square
kilometers of Pine Forest near the reactor succumb to radiation. Animals near ground zero die or
stopped reproducing.
