Practical No 1: Introduction to Industrial Automation

Q1. What is meant by Automation System?

 Automation is a system in which a machine or a plant is operated fully automatic
without any human interference.
Q2. Examples of Automation system.
 Water Bottle Filling Plant, Traffic Light Control, Automatic Operating Vehicles
(Tesla), Dry Iron, Washing Machine, Etc.
Q3. What is PLC?
 PLC is Programmable Logic Controller. It is a device which continuously monitors
states of input devices and makes decisions based on implemented program logic.

1. Level 0 is sensors and actuators which directly interacts with machines and processes of
plant. Through this level signals are connected from machine and transfer to Level 1
2. Level 1 is automatic control which is used to execute control action through actuator.
3. Level 2 is supervisory control which monitors and control different actions perform on
plant through level 1.
4. Level 3 is production control which is responsible for maintenance and production
quality.
5. Level 4 is enterprise which is directly constant with management sales and marketing.
